Pink and perfect mystery
to which I ply my finger,
she ripens so exquisitely
the longer that I linger

and fluff the modest blossom
with my gentle loving hand,
teasing, ever pleasing
so that now I understand

how beautiful the flower
that yields without duress,
blooming now so fully
in the warmth of my caress.

Images of Georgia O'Keefe's flower paintings bloom in my mind... with it's subtle suggestions. A lovely poem.

God loved us so much that He gave us flowers. I see his face reflected in every one. Flowers smile up at us. They dance in the breeze. They bloom in gardens. God bless all gardeners. And thank you for your wonderful poem.

Flowers are there in this world to remind us the tenderness and affection associated with early childhood. Had flowers not been there we would not have perhaps this frequently remembered about our infant years. Children are the flowers of humanity and flowers are the children of divinity- in both ways, it is true. This simple poem reminds us this simpler truth of humanity, divinity and nature. My compliments to Keith Bickerstaffe but regret the absence of capitalization which I expect from him.

I see one of the other great legends of Soup commented on this one too. Elaine George. I came here right as Elaine and Sharon were going off. They were goddesses of poetry here.
