An original rondeau, old or new, on a theme of your choice
Please use this definition of Rondeau:
The rondeau consists of thirteen lines of eight syllables each, plus two refrains (which
are half lines, each of four syllables), employing, altogether, only two rhymes. It has
three stanzas; its rhyme scheme is as follows: (1) A A B B A (2) A A B with the refrain: C
(3) A A B B A with concluding refrain C. The refrain must be identical with the beginning
of the first line.
I don't know why the Poetry Soup definition says there are three rhymes; there are two.
Please notice: The definition says EIGHT syllables per line. ALSO, using iambic
tetrameter will make your entry more likely to place high.
For a WONDERFUL (and famous) example, look at John McCrae's "In Flanders Fields,"
which is featured with this site's definition of "rondeau." For a MUCH-inferior example,
read my "Courage," posted October 2, 2017.
