Contest Description
What to Submit?
1 only original, poem using the Cinquain form (modern American)
- Five lines with 2, 4, 6, 8, 2 syllables, respectively.
The best cinquain poems strictly adhere to the structure and have intense physical imagery to communicate a mood, message or feeling in a succinct way. In some ways, the ciquain is a type of epigram with a strict structure. The modern form, developed by Adelaide Crapsey, was probably inspired by Japanese haiku and tanka. Using 'center' layout works well with this form [
.....
]. One advantage of this form is that your poems will be listed on Poetry Soup's affiliated website http://www.cinquainpoemsandpoets.com/poems/
For more information about Cinquain see: http://www.cinquain.org/theory.html
