WHAT MAKES US BLOCK MEMBERS FROM OUR PAGES?

sweet hello, everyone...before responding, kindly keep this blog on a positive note.. we all know blocking a person is an option here on soup.. this makes me wonder how we deal with such..

i have only been blocked once when i was new here.. i was shocked, but this person soupied me and in a few courses of our exchanges, we both found out that we took some statements out of perspective.. all went well after this souper and i came from true understanding and goodwill.. it seems, we do need to clarify what a message really means.. after all, there are many ways to interpret a thought...

on my side of this soup world, i have not blocked anyone, for some reason...

so how does it feel to be blocked or to block someone, others?... in the spirit of the holydays , may we share in a loving way... perhaps this will help us see the different viewpoints of our members.. if you do need to vent, please be guided by TPS' rules of conduct..any thoughs on this?.. huggs to all!

I have never conciously blocked anyone but that little button is right there and could be accidently touched without knowing it. I have been blocked in the past by a couple of poets who I am positive I never said anything untoward to....to my knowledge. My suggestion is for everyone to check their blocked poets list to make sure there is no-one on it you didn't mean to block. I think in a case like that they could have hit that little eye by mistake and not be aware they blocked a possible genuine fan.

Suzanne, I wondered about that. A poet by the name Anderson, Jimmy, comes around twice a year to say hello. I want to say hello, but he has my account blocked. I wonder if he even knows? I find it strange that he wants me to say hello right back, yet he has me blocked. SKAT

My suggestion is for everyone to check their blocked poets list now and then to make sure they haven't inadvertently blocked a friend or potential friend this way.

I've blocked one person and only after she blocked me...for reasons unknown. It saddened me that I had to do it to keep her from writing her accusations in a comment box on a poem I had written, and after several attempts of asking her to stop she continued to write lies. I was told that blocking her was the only way to delete her comments, so I did. Other than that, I enjoy comments and soup mail from everyone.

reasons unknown... was wondering if you may want to message this person just to ask about the blocking?... would that hurt?.. at least, i feel yo'ud know the truth, lin.. huggs!

I have only found it necessary to block that one random (unknown) hacker who wants everyone's personal email address or shares his scam to everyone claiming "let's better acquainted". I don't block otherwise

I have blocked 2 people since being on poetry soup.Both for the same reason.If you disagree with me fine, I'm a grown man and we can argue about anything you wish.It's when someone becomes childish that I lose respect and will just shut the door and move on, never to look back.If you are a child then I will accept you as a child, but if you are an adult I will not accept you as a child.The two I blocked were adults acting like children..There is enough stuff going on in everyone's lives, dealing with immaturity on the internet is not one of them.If that appears to be petty to some..so be it..because that's just an opinion and I have no problem with that.We all have opinions.

HI, Nette. Interesting blog. I've wanted to blog about this myself some time back, but as you know....blogs can get...what's the word...out of hand. However, since you brought it up. I don't have anyone blocked, though I know I am blocked by someone. I was not rude to this person. I had a different view. I think it's sad. Having said that. I believe the block option should be like that on facebook. When you block someone...your comments, poems, others comments should all become invisible to the blocked person. I think we are aware that there are bullies on the sight and people who "have it in for you" no matter what you do or say....In such a case...

Well, I'm not sure about the posts, but certainly the poem can still be seen. On FB....if you unfriend....the person can still find you, but if you block....it's as though...you don't exist to that blocked person. That sort of block option would make sense for people are being continually harassed. As I said before....and I reiterate....NO ONE is on my blocked list. However, I will not have my character maligned by anyone. TPS has been helpful in the past on sorting that issue. Thanks for the hugs.

to save yourself the emotional strain of having them harass you, I believe that option would be a viable one. To block someone from commenting doesn't stop the from reading and spreading rumors and getting people's back up against you. I speak from experience. People should be aware that there are legal ramifications to the things they do on this site. TPS has rules...WRITTEN rules. If there is a clear violation of those rules...TPS...and the person who breaks the rules can face legal recourse. It's best to live in peace with everyone...or as I have done...avoid people who I believe are against me. Live and let live.

I blocked 2 that were spamming everyone. Those Hi I want to be your friends ones... The one's that PoetrySoup later got rid of... I've never blocked a real person and don't intend to.

I have been blocked twice that I know of and I consider both of those favors. I like to engage friend and foe, so no blocking from me.

Hi Nette, hope you alright.. =`) I did block some poets here because they are sending me this comment that I will communicate with them by e-mail. I blocked poets who soupmailed me and their words are abusive, unjust, offensive and unruly. I have been blocked by one when I went to her blog and saw that my comments were deleted though my comments are proper and with all respect. I felt sad when that same person was the one who encouraged me to continue writing.. Anyhow, I don't have so much time to deal on these... I am here because I have learned writing more . I learned to hide in here and pour even my very heart...

i'm with you on this one, dear eloi.. there is a proper time to block people you feel don't respect basic values...so sad but it needs to be done!.. i hope the good outweigh the bad...huggs!

in my five years here i have never blocked or been blocked...i dislike the block button, as i dislike the report button...one of life's great lessons is learning how to negotiate difficult situations (and people!), talk through problems, and you can't do that if you block someone; communication is the essence of life, of relationships, and blocking puts the 'block' on that...my saturn in gemini means i'm tested in communicating, and so i am - frequently! lol

You're kind of an enigma to me, Ian. You come off as tough and a bit unruly, and gushing with natural talent. Yet, you are more sensitive than you think! Your blog, "Am I really a poet?" revealed that one to me, because you needed confirmation, and your writing has many sensitive moments in it. Being sensitive isn't a bad thing, it's okay to be vulnerable now and then :) I'm sensitive, I know it, and I own up to it!

The only people I ever blocked here were trolls ,people I never knew who sent me soup.m asking me for an email address to know me better ,then when I tried reading their poems , they had none , Apart from that,only once did I block someone ,and was blocked only once in my life by this same person ,for one day (time out : )..To answer yr questtion,How did it feel ? Great when I was mad at him ,sad when I cooled down. So sad ,infact I removed the 'block'. .I really hate blocking people or such stuff .Other than this one occasion in six yrs I ve been here,none..and Im sure there was a misunderstanding between me and this ..What do I call him..Friend ? Family..Yep Guess so.

There were two instances when I wanted to block people who would incessantly send their emails for 'I don't what' purpose. Since I come here to enjoy poems of members, and write some myself, I decided to ignore them. It still happens, mind you. Patience! Good to exhale this.Happy holidays!

Nette I have blocked 5,in my 9+ years here,(not sure whether they are stll here).My reasons ..use of offensive language ..and offensive comments on my blogs/poetry.Sadly ,a blocking facility is a must have on an open site like this.Have a good day.regards Brian
