Remembering our good friend L. Milton Hankins ( and POTD gremlins)

Blog Posted by Tom Cunningham: 11/7/2023 10:01:00 PM

Thanks to all who commented on my recent short lived POTD on Sunday the 5th of November 'Jailbreak at Milton Creek' despite this Tania was getting messages congratulating her for hers although mine was still showing after a few hours mine vanished and replaced by Tania's poem 'Twelve Days Of Christmas With Ziggy' that was also well deserving of the POTD honour. I contacted admin as I was curious as to why mine had vanished and it turned out they were working on the algorithm that chooses POTD and it messed things up a bit, just one of those things I suppose. For those new to the site who are not aware, Milton Creek is a series of humorous poems about a fictional old western town (formally Soup Creek) The reason for the name change was to remember our good friend and supporter to many who passed away on the 22nd December in 2022. L. Milton Hankins. Milt was in the story from the start as 'The Gambler' who owned Aces Hotel in the town and loved being part of the story. We all agreed to rename the town Milton Creek in his honour so that he'd never be forgotten. Tom.

I miss having Milton around. He would be proud of your name change on this brilliant old western series. It’s unfortunate that they use an algorithm instead of reading and choosing one.

Gosh, it's hard to believe a whole year has passed without him. Sorry what happened to your POTD. Luck of the draw!

I wouldn't call it 'Luck of the draw.' More like a PS glitch.

Tom, a great blog, I think there are gremlins in the soup. It was weird that your POTD was removed, mine was then listed but not posted. Not very fair to either of us. I am sorry that yours was removed. It would have made more sense to have left yours up and posted mine the next day. Love the Milton Creek series, I am sure he would be honored. It's hard to believe next month will be a year that he has been gone. Keep writing those wonderful series.

It would be the right thing to do if your poem has equal time as POTD, Tom. It was a very thoughtful gesture for you to explain to those who joined PS in the past year how Milton Creek was founded and to give Milt his due respect. As mayor, you make the townsfolk proud.
