Gremlins in the soup bowl

I was just browsing the site and looked in at my contest entries and was surprised to see that I'd entered a recent contest sponsored by Unseeking Seeker called Unity Consciousness. My entry was Black Friday humour a string of limericks I wrote back in 2019. The strange thing is I never entered the contest and if I had I wouldn't have entered a string of humourous limericks for it. Also I'm getting emails to say someone has commented on one of my poems and emails to say someone has replied to a comment I'd made on someone else's poem, I thought they'd stopped doing that. Took screenshots as proof. Tom Update 2nd June, have contacted admin, awaiting response on both counts

That is really strange about entering your poem in a contest. I did notice that the contest screen seemed to be frozen and I couldn’t open any of the contests around that time. Best of luck with the outcome Tom. Blessings xxoo

Thank you Connie, they've updated the software and I've noticed the layout has changed but I had to look twice that I'd entered US's contest with old limericks I wrote back in 2019, nothing at all to do with the contest theme. Admin wondered if someone had my password well the only person that has that is me, I don't share it with anyone. I'm getting paranoid and keep looking in lol. Tom

Oh Tom, I can't believe this is happening again!. Hopefully admin can sort out and exile the gremlins. Thanks for the heads up. Will check my accounts and let you know if I see anything strange. Over Fork Over!

It’s strange Tom I can see the contests ok, but it will not allow me to go any further to see the sponsors criteria and personal pointers for the contest, have you got the same issues, cheers David

Hi David, No, I didn't have any problem entering a contest but when I checked to make sure it had gone in I noticed I'd entered a contest without my knowledge lol Admin asked has someone else got access to my computer., errr no, only me and I share passwords with no one. Just looked at the contests and the layouts have changed. Seems its a software update or something, a heads up would have been nice. Tom

Hi Tom. I'm getting the little green numbers AND email notifications if someone leaves a comment. I must admit I, too, thought notifications had been stopped by admin. Constance I've used the Contact button for admin and got a reply when I had forgotten my password...I'm now hoping it was admin that replied and told me to go ahead and change my password. Thank you Gary, it seems it was just a coincidence admin reinstating the email notifications and finding that someone had entered my poem in US's contest, I feared the worst that I'd been hacked. But I know it wasn't me that entered it. Still not heard from admin. Tom

Tom, it sounds like a glitch to me, you having a poem in a contest that you didn't do. Hopefully it will get sorted out. I have been getting emails when someone comments on a poem of mine and when my comment has received a reply. I am thinking the admin are bringing this back again, along with having the number at the top. Perhaps they have updated the system. My best to you. ~ Brandy

Thank you Brandy, they must have reintroduced notifications by external email which is fine, but seeing my limericks in quite a serious contest that I know I didn't enter left me fuming. Have changed password now but someone pretending to be me could have made malicious comments to another poet. I just hope the site is secure from hackers and the lowlifes you find on the Internet. Tom

Thanks Jan, notifications I can cope with but entering limericks in what was quite a serious contest is not funny. I know it wasn't me, I share my passwords with no one ( since changed) Haven't heard from admin yet. Tom

Tom, I am so sorry this has happened to you, first thing you should change your password and make it something no one would ever guess, I often use crossword word search puzzles that even I have a hard time remembering, and never hit that "remember me" click thing ever, never, you give hackers a half way there. You probably changed it already. I hope soup responds to you about this, did you use poetrysoup@poetrysoup.com through your private email to contact them, not the contact us at the bottom of the pages because as you recall the email on the site does not work ie we are not receiving notifications about comments anymore, blessings ~Constance

That is strange, I too have been getting notification on my poems that have been read.. I figure Soup has found away to let us know

Thank you Constance, I thought something was amiss because as well as the green notifications I'm getting external emails like before they changed it to the green notification at the top. I know I didn't enter limericks in US's. Contest. Password changed. Tom

I was a bit surprised myself but then in contests, we do get several out of context entries. What’s surprising in your case is that you’re saying someone hacked your account (or had access to your computer) and entered the contest, without your knowledge.

I took a screenshot of the entry so will send it to admin, I do most of my work on a smartphone or my ipad and no one has access to either of them only me. There's only me and my wife and I know she wouldn't have done it because my password is only known to me. Very strange for sure

Tom, I'm not sure I understand what is happening here. Are you saying that someone is representing you (or someone else) without your permission? I'm not sure what is meant by "someone has replied to a comment I'd made on someone else's poem." I suppose I'm out of the loop on this. Soup Mail me if I can help.

Thanks Milton, I know 100% I didn't submit a string of limericks to Unseeking Seekers contest. My wife wouldn't have a clue how to navigate the site let alone find a poem and enter it in a contest?. I'll contact admin and see if they can throw any light on it. Maybe Putin doesn't like my anti Russian poems lol. Prior to the green indicator at the top we used to receive an external email to alert us that someone had left a comment on one of our poems and also a email to tell us that someone had replied to a comment that we had made on theirs, but admin stopped doing it a long time ago. Sorry you’ve been ‘mimicked’ Tom. The problem with this sort of thing is that you can’t help but wonder how far into ‘you’ they’ve got… is it just SOUP, or have they invaded your computer. It can mess with your head. Personally, I’d funnel Vegemite into them… by the gallon! Terry

Long story short, Tom. My muse was failing me… I could almost feel the space in my head where she would normally dwell… so I started on a ‘SIMPLE’ abc of kids poems just to get the rhyme back… it’s been a bit of a nightmare but I’ve stuck with it (cos I’m like that). Now by hook or by crook, this damned thing is going to be a book… EVEN IF IM THE ONLY ONE WHO EVER SEES IT, it’s gonna be a thing! Have to say my muse appears to be on an extended vacation though. Hmm… did I say ‘long story short’?

Lol that stuff would choke them for sure. Very strange though I mean what's to be gained by it entering old limericks in a serious contest. Either it's gremlins or someone that knows the site. Hope you're well Terry, haven't seen you for a while. Tom
