Mark Toney Biography

Happily married for over 50 years —that's Golden, Baby!—having raised two sons, both married to girls named Carla. Go figure. :)

"The great thing about getting older is that you don't lose all the other ages you've been." — Madeleine L'Engle

"A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies...The man who never reads lives only one." —George R. R. Martin

"... there is nothing more truly artistic than to love people." — Vincent van Gogh

"And that's the whole poem," he said. "Do you like it, Piglet?"
"All except the shillings," said Piglet. "I don't think they ought to be there."
"They wanted to come in after the pounds," explained Pooh, "so I let them. It's the best way to write poetry, letting things come in."
— The House at Pooh Corner, A. A. Milne

JOY

               LET a joy keep you.
Reach out your hands
And take it when it runs by,
As the Apache dancer
Clutches his woman.
I have seen them
Live long and laugh loud,
Sent on singing, singing,
Smashed to the heart
Under the ribs
With a terrible love.
Joy always,
Joy everywhere—
Let joy kill you!
Keep away from the little deaths.

            Carl Sandburg

Ok. Now you spoiled it, Mark. Here I was posting my poetry and commenting on other's poetry, blissfully unaware of the identity of the PoetrySoup admin/owner. I liked to imagine it was some great poet whose noble endeavor was to inspire the muse in struggling poets worldwide and bring back poetry to the masses. It certainly dulls the senses to learn the man behind the curtain is the CEO of a large corporation. Can I pretend I never read your blog?

Lol... What blog? I love your comment, Jan. All seriousness aside, Mark Pringle is a great poet with said noble endeavor, who became CEO of a corporation by happenstance. So you're back on track! Cheers! ~Mark

That was my intention too, Brian, when I bought it. I was interested in finding out about the people (Mark and his wife) behind PoetrySoup. Having read some of it already, I appreciate his emphasis on enjoying life, family and friends, being content without things, and helping others. His approach is down to earth and refreshingly honest. Thank you for contributing to the blog, Brian. ~Mark

I see no problem with it, at first blush it might seem self serving but if you'd like a premium membership it's a good deal and if by chance if someone learned something from the book, they saved money and made money as well. As far as people leaving, that's life and its unfortunate circumstances - we come, we go and there's nothing wrong with tooting your own horn if you own the band, especially if, and this is the important part, it is actually costing you money to do it.

Hey, I was told you gave my book a shout out on PoetrySoup. Thanks for the plug Mark! FYI, money is certainly not the key to happiness, but we can live in a way that allows us to be happier, based on the way we manage our money. Be safe everyone and listen to the authorities. These are unusual times. http://www.arczis.com/

Mark, thanks for the information on Mark's book, as I do not think money is the key to happiness the book no matter how well written would not interest me and as I am already a Life Time Member that Premier Membership has no value for me either and well I, have contentment already and my life is pretty happy already except the grief thing that haunts me _Constance

I appreciate that, Constance. I agree that money is not the key to happiness, and the author of the book also agrees. I have a Lifetime Premier Membership too. The reason for the blog is since many if not all of us received the email, I wanted to make all aware of the author’s relationship with PoetrySoup.
