Connie Marcum Wong in the hospital

Poetry Soup family,

I received word just now that Connie Marcum Wong has been hospitalized for 4 days now, suffering with what the doctors believe is general heart failure. She says her heart is enlarged and for 7 days she has been unable to breathe without sitting up and leaning forward. They are performing a cat scan today. She would appreciate your prayers, thoughts, and well wishes.

Anyone who knows of updates, feel free to post here; I will do the same as I receive updates of her condition.

Dear Poetry Friends, here is an Update on my condition. I saw my cardiologist yesterday and found out my pacemaker caused my secondary heart problem. I am working with my doctor to find a solution. He said they may need to to replace my pacemaker with a more advanced one. I am feeling stronger every day and I have faith I will regain my health. Thank you all so much for your prayers. Update on Connie's condition... I wanted to report some good news, Connie wrote me on July 10th that she is "doing fantastic!" The hospital released her after 5 days with stabilized breathing, and now she's learning to live with a practically salt-free diet, and an oxygen machine during the night hours to keep her oxygen count up. She's been sleeping 10 hours a night. The doctor has decided to take her off the pills that she discovered have beta blockers and were causing side effects such as tiredness, depression, and anxiety. She is working with a naturopathic doctor to find supplements that will help her heart but without the harmful side effects. She wrote, "I know everyone’s prayers helped me so much and I am beyond grateful... I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the love that has been shown me by all the members at Poetry soup. I was moved to tears. Thank you for your thoughtfulness..."

My Dearest John and Poetry Soup Members, I was so very very moved when I got John’s letter and came to see his blog. I thank each and everyone of you for your prayers and comments for they certainly helped me. I came home today and I am breathing much better and the doctor said my kidneys are fine and so are my lungs, no obstruction or blood clots. My heart is still pumping at 20% and I will need to learn to do all I can to help my heart keep up with my body. Please forgive me not answering each of your comments individually because I would like to do. My daughter-in-law and grandson are visiting and I need to give them my time right now for they will be going home shortly.

Another update, John. Just talked to a lady there in Hawaii with Connie, I believe it's her daughter-in-law. Akiro told me that Connie is WAY better and breathing comfortably now. She will be coming home on Monday they suppose. I will hopefully have news later on what the cat scan reveals. That's great what Milt says down here . Gives us reason to think she will be doing fine!!

I have sent Connie an encouraging Soup Mail. Congestive heart failure with the symptoms she described to Michael is very controllable. I have lived with it for a long time. I have to watch my diet, take diuretics, and monitor my fluid intake. She can do this. She's a strong lady. I am hoping the very best for this gracious poet.

wow, John, you beat me to it. I planned to blog about this after work, and here I am but I see you have told her story. Her cat scan was today and she is in much pain. So she is waiting for results of the scan. Also, her legs are swollen and she is fatigued. It's so scary for her. I can hardly believe this is happening, as it's similar to what her husband endured. I hope everyone will pray for this lovely lady . She is my longest time friend in poetry and has gone through so much this past year or two . How I hope she will come out of this ok.

Update. I received a Soup mail from Connie. She stated to me she was having problems breathing so she went to the Hospital. She stated she has been there four days and her breathing is much better. She stated that her heart is enlarged but she is feeling much better and she is waiting for them to do a Catscan so she can leave the hospital. Im assuming her condition has stabilized. Please continue praying for Connie. I asked her to Soup Mail me back when she feels better and I shared with her about Johns blog and we are all praying and wishing her to get better...
