Notes About The Poem

3 Cheers For the Gear

What makes the hiking up mountains more striking?
What makes the driving more fun than arriving?
What makes the ocean-ing worth the sun lotioning?
                                                                                  Gear!

Gear makes the biking much more to my liking,
Gear makes the camping way less spirit-damping,
Gear makes the gardening less callous-hardening,
                                                       Let's hear it for Gear!

Now softball-leaguing is way more intriguing,
Now boogie boarding is much more rewarding,
Now even jogging feels less like a flogging,
                                                      3 cheers for the Gear!

               Titanium! Spandex! Aluminum! Latex!
                       Hi-tech! All-weather! Light as a feather!

No wonder I struggled for many a year -
I had not the wherewithal to buy the gear!

I saw your autobiographical ones just now, which I had commented to and found to be so endearing. I had seen this one before too . I think it's especially innovative and charming. Maybe I have already seen all your list. On I continue!!

I really enjoyed the rhythmic flow and rhyme embraced in this fun poem, John. It sounds as though you're quite the sportsman! It must be frustrating to be limited during the current situation. We are so blessed here to have a spacious garden to jog around!

I am trying to think less on what I'm doing without, and focus on gratitude for what I do have, as you are with your garden. My one visit to the U.K. impressed me with the fabulous gardens, so lovingly designed, maintained and enjoyed by all. Thanks for the comment on rhythm and rhyme; it means so much coming from one whom I respect in those very areas. Grace and peace ~ John

John you actually made GEAR sound exciting. I love this one. And how you made the -ing endings cleverly, such as sun lotioning. I really enjoy a fun poem like this and it was quite creative. this is your second post at Soup. To ensure I read all your poems and be caught up, I shall try to read at least one a day going UP the list from the bottom to the top!! Have a nice saturday. I will hit the gym , the wonderful massage bed and then have lunch with a good friend. Top off with Call Of the Wild

Andrea, I would try to do the same for your list, but it would take 8.6 years! I wish I'd taken those Evelyn Wood speed-reading classes in college!

I like the fun and lighthearted attitude that is conveyed about sporting gear...a subject I would never think of writing about! Enjoyed the read!
