Artistic Overflow - Mona Ebel's Blog

I am an aspiring artist of sorts. I say aspiring because I have no formal traing or education in art. But I love to create. Most of the time it's experimenting unto failure. I look at the art of others and they are so much better than I. This is not false humility saying that. It's the truth. I wish I could create the art that I see from other, more advanced, experienced and developed artists. I look at the detail in some work and I'm blown away. Sometimes I will see an image and be inspired to copy it. But more often then not I fail in my attempt. Im not the kind of artist that can just whip out a sketch of a person and get it right the first time. My sketches have lots of eraser marks. I always want to use a pencil first so that I can erase a line or curve gone rogue. Then when I am satisfied with the outline I will fill in the color. I have many canvasses that are ruined midway. Then I will attempt to paint over but then the surface of the painting has bumps from over layering paint. The result then has an unprofessional look. Needless to say I have wasted a lot of good canvas because of it. Sometimes I stop in without finishing because I will take on a project that is not becoming what I envisioned. But every now and then something will click, and I will produce a piece that is both satisfying and pleasing to my my eyes. I have sold four paintings. My first one was for $20. at the flea market in 2009. My second one was for $250. in 2016. My third one was $350. In 2024, and my last one was for $500. just this year (2025). I have always wanted to have a collection of completed paintings on exhibit. One day I will.
