Steadily swimming
She flashes a grin
Doc in a boat
Take's a note
she won't surrender.
She wants to win
finds strength within.
Worriedly Waiting,
friend wishes she'd ask herself "why"
and paces the French side.
Hastily helping,
she rises a moment
to wave, before waves re-hide
He feels pride inside
Stand by the starlight,
The watch boat is tossed
Pain isn't peaceful,
enter the arena
know the cost
Their bond is a beacon; the channel was crossed.
this race isn't lost.

Have I gone mad? My kith and kin, and friends worriedly ask
I'm unable to eat or sleep; I am stressed. I am lost.
Defining the meaning of my gestures - is a hard task.
Amidst hullabaloos of my fickle fortune, I'm tossed.
I want to see her; I want to hear the three-letter word.
I want to tell her all about me—my rises and falls.
Moments I'm unable to feel her presence, seem absurd.
Her voice sounds and resounds within, like the angelic calls.
Does the world say I'm old? Nay. I am a transformed eagle.
Your silence (purposeful?) yet shakes my very existence.
Don't you make as well as Mar as a mythical seagull?
Your frankincense scent, I serenely sense from far distance.
My entire universe is enraptured by your glance.
The constellation of my consciousness stands in a trance.

Once upon a donkey’s back,
as I rode I heard a quack.
Donkey worriedly shook his head.
“It’s a duck!” he brayed with dread.
I was surprised and could not speak.
Why would docile Donkey shriek?
Duck was not a fearsome foe.
Why did Donkey fear him so?
“Donkey,” I asked, “why do you fear?
Duck is merely following us here.”
“I don’t wish Duck to be so near.
His intent to me is not clear.”
“If Duck desires to ride with us,
I’m sure you won’t put up a fuss.”
But Donkey quickened up his pace
with a dark frown on his face.
I pleaded Donkey to slow down.
“Duck only wants a ride to town.”
His response was plain insane.
“Duck intends to pull my mane!”
So we refused poor Duck a ride.
My deep concern I could not hide.
I looked in wonder at Donkey,
his wacky fear a bit wonky.

Need my first thing in the morning cuppa tea
bladder’s screaming ‘how long can I hold this pee?
but I am waiting for a darned online delivery
App says 8 more stops, so I know he’s getting near
then hopefully these butterflies will disappear
Footsteps creak along the corridor, it could be him
bet those nosey bastards went and let him in
Naah, must be a resident or someone visiting.
App now says 5 more stops then he’ll be here
butterflies go wild – it’s a frenzied bacchanal
dancing, unabashedly as though its carnival
The tea, the pee, a number two, can all wait
He’ll soon be here before I’m in a real state.
App now say 3 more stops, then he’ll be here
soon I can get on with the rest of my day
butterflies could then stop their taunting play.
OH NO! app shows his current location
my near elation has turned to frustration
never mind butterflies, my stomach is in a knot
wondering if he will come today - or not.
Put the kettle on, better make a nice cuppa tea
sat on the toilet, desperately needed that pee
number two shouted worriedly ‘oi what about me?’
Then, just then, there is a ringing on my bell.
Butterflies danced - now they can go to hell.

East Devon Beacon
by Michael R. Burch
Evening darkens upon the moors,
Forgiveness?a hairless thing
skirting the headlamps, fugitive.
Why have we come,
traversing the long miles
and extremities of solitude,
worriedly crisscrossing the wrong maps
with directions
obtained from passing strangers?
Why do we sit,
frantically retracing
love’s long-forgotten signal points
with cramping, ink-stained fingers?
Why the preemptive frowns,
the litigious silences,
when only yesterday we watched
as, out of an autumn sky this vast,
over an orchard or an onion field,
wild Vs of distressed geese
sped across the moon’s face,
the sound of their panicked wings
like our alarmed hearts
pounding in unison?
