Just yesterday, there was a rain storm;
t'was also unseasonably warm.
There were hurricane winds.
We were all so chagrined
'cause in winter, that's just not the norm!

April Blues

I like hammocks.
I like buzzing bees.
Unseasonably warm days.
Or maybe more like hours…
In April, things get taken out.
Then put away again.
My favorite shorts.
My favorite flowers.
My favorite everything.
Even when it’s supposed to be cold and stormy tomorrow…
We don’t believe it.
So we pull out clunky lawn furniture.
And mow the grass which has only grown a few millimeters.
Today is April 22nd.
Don’t leave any metal tools out.
Or they will be rained on and get rusty.
I thought the rust was over.
It’s as if March is haunting us.
In about a week, it will be May.
We should be excited.
As the grass grows and grows endlessly.
But today, it is still April.
Hopelessly April.

Springtime, It's Springtime

Springtime, it's springtime
Winter has taken a leave of absence
Now it's time for flower to make their grand entrance
Leaving us awestruck and inspired

The mild breezes drift in through the shades
Almost knocking over the vase last year in pottery class I made
And the weatherman predicts unseasonably rainy weather
I start working out because soon summer will come and I want to feel light as a feather

A unique black squirrel climbs up a tree full of lime green buds
I put away my worn out, dull sweaters
For a nice outfit of cotton duds

Today the rays of sun stay brighter longer
Don't worry, I tell myself, for no longer do I have to feel somber
At the metropolitan parks nearby
The snow shovelers have to say goodbye

Springtime, it's springtime
We can't wait to welcome you again
But for now I'd like to take a walk
With my new best friend

Premium Member Touch of Spring

Good morning, Spring.

I saw you yesterday for the first time in 2024.
I did not know how long you had been standing
there. My wife saw you sometime before I did
but failed to inform me.

Honestly, Spring, although it is unseasonably
warm where we live, I did not expect to see
you in February.

Anyway, you are always beautiful and so full
of life, and yesterday was no exception. You
were pretty and pink in the peach tree, and
greenish with a tiny bit of white in the plum
trees, but the pear and pecan trees as well
as the crape myrtle trees were not ready for
your touch of Spring.

Oh, Spring, I hope you don't get hit this year
with a late spring freeze. That could change
everything.

It was great seeing you, my friend. I look forward
to many more of your great displays and beautiful
scenery. Until then, my dear Spring friend.

One Unseasonably Cool and Cloudy Beach Day

cloudy beach day
unseasonably cool
the most popular girl in high school is holding my hand
my eyes discovered her on arrival day
so surprised she remembered me
her smile told a story that made me hard
i did not ask questions
an autograph from her is the pleasure of her company
listening to the waves crash
forgetting regrets and unwise decisions
soon we will have to go back to the lives that we chose to create
however and right now, this moment is for us to live our dream.....for once

Speak Up

Sweater and knee socks in May
As around her
All present sweltered

damp browed assuring
She felt just fine
In things unseasonably sheltered

A boundary crossed
The sweater removed
Insult to injury by force

Seeing the reason
And humiliation
Immediately showing remorse

Gently escorted away from
The eyes
that looked on ,and on,it seemed

After the big unveiling
the rest
A nightmarish dream

The role of being
A spokesman unwittingly
given that day

No looking not
Or deciding
to look the other way

We all have an obligation
to the fragile
Or dispossessed

Trying to hide
their battle scars
Each day as their getting dressed

Be the one who says
 "Come with Me"
As you guide them out of this mess

Love in action
Love indeed
Not shallow words professed

Premium Member December Roses

Soft as a snowflake falls
and melts on the earth still warm
December roses dare to bloom
Winter is calling her seasons firm

Like a love that is fragile and shy
December roses unseasonably stay
soon the winds of winter will arrive
and blow your petals away

The nights frost is heavy
the winds chill the ground
the snow begins falling so strong
In snowflakes the roses drown

Beauty can be fragile
with a smile that is wry
Nature enforces her seasons
December roses freezing goodbye

Like a love short but long remember
December roses dare to display
pretty roses to treasure
gifted by warmth of odd December days

One rose the month surrender
into a poetry book I pressed
So I can look and remember
December roses of warmth's kiss

Premium Member Change In the Weather

I am simply amazed at the changes in the weather
Unseasonably warm toward the end of December
We have yet to see a ground covering of snow
It hasn’t been this warm as long as I remember.

Record-breaking, the meteorologists are reporting
I’m thinking it can’t be good for the spreading virus,
When I was young at Christmas, we wanted a sled
Now, warm weather vehicles are more desirous.

I’ve heard rumors the earth is going to flip over
Do you think maybe the seasons are in reversal?
Could it be possible the impossible is coming true?
In July we’ll be having Christmas cantata rehearsal.

One thing’s for sure, we cannot control the weather
I suspect we’ve been trying to fool Mother Nature
By building in the wrong places, we ignore the facts,
Well, I’m not hedging bets on our far-distant future.

Predawn

In the quiet before dawn,
As a waning quarter moon rises
The click clack of my Mastiff's steps beside me
The roar of motors a mile away
On a farm to market road.
The stars are bright this morning.
Even bright enough to say hello despite the street lights and house lamps.
The air is cool and crisp, unseasonably so
Normally it would feel like a sauna.
Birds are gathering breakfast for their youngins,
And the occasional polecat is unperturbed by my presence.
It's not a country thing
It's not a city thing.
But it is my thing
This walk every morning
Doing my part to wear down the cement
In this wild place in which I live.

On This Unseasonably July Hot Afternoon

.

He Wears a Blue Hot Uniform
On this unseasonably July hot afternoon,
The wet postman with weary steps, trods down the sidewalk home.
An ill-clad lady caught him crushing her lingering white flowers,
And though she was annoyed, would not
Scold him, but, instead,
She wouldst hand him a cold cloth and water for his dripping head,
Pat him on his shoulder, pick up a a dirty dropped letter,
And then retreat into her air-conditioning.

On this unseasonably July hot afternoon.

Personal Inspiration In the Key of Me

windy day
pollen in the air
a christmas song in my mind
thoughts of the ocean tease me good

sunny day
unseasonably cold and brisk
a rare jazz funk song in my head
thoughts of speeding on back roads tease me good

mild weather day
clouds resemble puffy pillows
a song on a now broken 78 is making me smile
thoughts of seeing sights tease me nonstop

one day i hope to gather and go
denied by my whole self are unnecessary thoughts of woe
i refuse to let a communicable virus steal the show
i got my unplanned plans to inspire and motivate me to Go.....

He Wears a Blue Hot Uniform

On a hot spring afternoon, a wet postman
Hurries down the sidewalk home.
I catch him stepping on a new white iris,
And were I not alone, I would but
Scold him, but I would not, instead,
I wouldst hand him a cold coke for his dripping head,
Then pat him on his shoulder and pick up a dropped letter,
On this unseasonably hot afternoon.

Freya Is Her Name

Glorious sunny days of late
such warmth and so inviting
buds burst into flower
every minute of every hour
say goodbye to winter gloom
cold and dismal winter days
for spring is here the sun is out
and I am off to catch some rays

But oh that wind is getting stronger
blowing from the West
experts forecast snow and rain
so put away my summer dress
for it is only early March
seduced by February’s warmth
spring really has not sprung at all
where did I put my cashmere shawl

So warn those budding shrubs and trees
the wind and snow is on the way
and tell the buds they should stay put
too early for their spring display
such cold and windy weather today
for those who live within the UK

Storm Freya is the culprit
for Freya is her name
and any damage she may cause
Freya must take the blame

Our unseasonably warm weather comes to an end with the threat of Storm Freya – she is certainly no friend!

Wednesday, January 27th,
unseasonably warm by a few degrees
black and white of old snow
and soon to be new trees rest
against smoldering grey clouds.
The “wolfy” wind rests
tired from Tuesday’s “huffing and puffing”.
An urgent stillness greets the silence,
birds warily peer from stilled hangouts,
discarded food wrappers sleep in the alleys,
“Old Glory” hangs listless and burdened,
soft yellow windows blink – focus on the day.
A lone dog barks reclaiming his territory
from the nightly interlopers,
in the distance coyote’s yip
calling the children home to bed.
The old clock ticks as the sun
struggles to disperse the cloudy veil,
filtered light casting no shadows
on the black and white union of grey.
