You are old, Uncle Joseph

You are old, Uncle Joseph,
your short stepping gait
has aroused much comment
in the media of late.

My steps may be short
but I still get along.
Like Johnny Walker
I'm still going strong.

You are old, Uncle Joseph.
If I err, please forgive..
Your memory, they say,
somewhat resembles a sieve.

Being forgetful isn't so bad
and let me tell you why.
It often avoids the embarrassment
of having to tell a lie.

You are old Uncle Joseph,
you look like a clown
on certain occasions
when you nearly fall down.

Young man, whatever you say
i can still pull a mighty hard punch,
so why not take an old man's advice
and leave straight away to have lunch.

Uncle Rosebush Revitalization

the rosebush grew
until the days became new
still change is precious and few
the notice of your precious memory is long overdue

at times i feel guilty
now that i have outlived you
i still feel that you are older than me
for your understanding of the world far outranks mine

the rosebush died
modern forwardness is now satisfied
however this old soul is now very mortified
so a freshly new rosebush by me is now applied

Premium MemberAn Obituary To My Uncle

(My uncle who has been my father’s younger brother was almost like a father to me. He began his life as a commissioned officer in the Indian Air Force. He married my mother’s sister and is connected to me from both sides)

"I carry your heart with me(I carry it in my heart)I am never without it" Quote _ by E.E. Cummings

Gone you are, but shall not be forgotten
Love you and cherish the values you sowed
Through life’s strenuous paths you have trodden
With truth and uprightness you were endowed

You sired four children, a beautiful brood
From a heart of gold doled out love and care
You showed the path and your trail they pursued
Climbing ladders of success, they did fare

Heaped not any wealth, but worked without rest
Taught your children to accept life with grace
Gave up your pleasures to give them your best
You braved your days through life's perplexing maze

Uncle, to King eternal, you have fled
In our hearts, your loving memories flood

UNCLE DUBBY

I’ll tell you who Uncle Dubby is
The true backbone of our family
The root of where it all began
The beginning of our family tree
First with the name he was called
Born as Winfred James you see
Going by his initials WJ or just Dub
I always knew him as Uncle Dubby
Back in the day when he was young
He sang in a boys’ choir with my dad
Uncle Dubby’s girlfriend was Patsy
And Nellie was the little sister she had
Well my dad was introduced to Nellie
That’s how our family became to be
Uncle Dubby the beginning backbone
Our family is still creating the history
My Uncle Dubby is greatly missed
Such a wonderful loving family man
With my Aunt Pat for over 66 years
Standing by her side hand in hand
Always there for his children
In everything they would do
He sure loved his grandchildren
And the great grandchildren too
That horrible virus took his life
His loss was devastating to us all
He has taken his place in Heaven
Leaving happy memories to recall
Known as a strong Christian man
Is how the memories of him will be
Always showing the love of Christ
A Godly man was my Uncle Dubby

FRAGILE FREEDOMS
Lost in France,
Resting
    'neath a simple cross,
Just name,nationality and rank;
Giving of life,was his loss.

At home,
A breaking,aching heart;
A sweetheart's pain;
Her emptiness
      was another's gain.

In memory
       fading go
As echoing years slip by,
And still her tears flow;
Vivid yet
         her anguish sigh.

Forgotten,forfeit
         and for what?
freedom frailties,fragile,
Such ideas still beguile;
T'was ever thus,
      the peasant soldier's lot.

REPOST FROM 2007

Dear Uncle Eapen

It feels like just yesterday I saw you smiling,
and talking in whispering notes,
and it's today that you marked your new journey.
The news that brought tears to my eyes,
and you made me remember, what it was like to cry.
Aghast I am that,
never again to you, I will say hello.
It was hard to see you in eternal sleep,
clad in white, covered in flowers.
Yet my heart still says,
you would always stay around.
Your voice so subtle,
yet your wisdom and thoughts so profound.
Now you in that heavenly place,
on the wings of the heavenly dove,
soaring so high above.
As today you parted away in silence and tears,
to disembody for a new journey,
broken and shattered I am,
I regret never saying how much I love you,
and in silence, I grieve.
Let me cry myself to sleep at night,
and pray that Jesus keeps your soul at peace.
Now and forever,
you will be the one I always admired.

Premium MemberSeeing Uncle Josh

Uncle Josh was everlasting, ethereal, but to me real
For I was six when he passed, this is a memoir in his honor.
The first time I saw him after his funeral, I had a high fever.
I awoke from a fitful slumber noting a blue light from my closet.
Of course, being six, I thought how clever of the space aliens!
It was an electric blue light, neon-like. It did not flabbergast me though.
Magnitude of what I was seeing when I opened the door was lost on me.
Seeing Josh there may have struck others as odd, since he was dead.
I remember that he told me I could not touch him. That was okay.
I was not a touchy-feely kid all the time. We had a long talk.
He had some intense messages that I gave to his wife. I remember that.
However, I have no idea what they were.
The second I delivered them to her, they flew out of my memory.
He told me that he would be back sometime when I am older.
I am older now, and very much looking forward to his return.

Heaven's Light: a Loving Memory of My Uncle, Paul Murray

Heaven’s light shines brighter today
And its gates are opened extra wide
They’re preparing for another angel
To be seated by God’s side.
The trumpets blow louder
And the angel’s voices ring higher
Our hearts grow ever heavier as
Your final day with us grows nigher.
Over the years we’ve watched
As you’ve done the Lord’s work
It’ll be hard to let you go
As you ascend to Heaven from earth.
We all have our memories to share
Of you no matter where we are
Ones I remember most are the diner,
Your hats and of your cigars.
Heaven has prepared a place for you
Your job is finally done
You’ve secured the ultimate victory
Your race has been won.
We’ll share your pictures and stories
With the little ones as they come up
To give them a piece of our history
As life without you adjusts.
Heaven’s light shines brighter today
And has increased in its wealth
When God told his angels
“I’ve got this one”,
And took your hand Himself.
We’ll all miss you dearly.
Knowing this isn’t truly the end
We’ll get to see you our beloved
Uncle, Dad, brother and grandfather
One day again.

Rest easy now.

For Uncle Kenny: July, 1952- December, 2009

How do I say goodbye?
I'm nowhere near ready to let go
How do I come to terms
With the loss of one that I've loved so?

Never did it come to mind
That you'd have to leave so soon
I thought I'd have another chance
To sing old Baez tunes

You weren't supposed to leave just yet
With so many songs unsung
I've cherished memories of you
From the days when I was young

So many times you took me
To the latest movie show
And gladly let me tag along
Wherever you would go

You helped me to believe in me
When others seemed to doubt
And encouraged me to use my mind
For figuring things out

You told me truths about myself,
Urged me stretch and grow
You made all the difference
Oh, Lord, I hope you know

You saw me with such loving eyes;
Never once made me feel less
I hope you recall the times I've said
That my life you have blessed

But Uncle, I can rejoice today
In knowing you are free
And that your crown will hold a jewel
You've earned by loving me

In loving memory of Kenneth Charles Brewster.

I will cherish you always, Uncle Kenny!

Your favorite niece (wink).....

In Loving Memory Of...Uncle Toby

I’m sorry Auntie that your love is now lost
You survived and feel all alone
The pressures in life you must endure
For your children are now grown

We went and paid our last respects
Viewed his lifeless body , gave our last kiss
Your life with him has now come to an end
Your marriage was full of laughter and bliss

He died to soon you must think
Twenty-three years was not very long
We shed our tears and said good-bye
Why I know you ask this is so wrong

He led a good life, you had a chance to be his wife
You will miss his smiles
You will miss his sense of humor
But remember he walked many miles

Don’t think of him as gone away
A new journey he has just begun and he’s in peace
In a place of warmth and comfort
I know your pain will never cease

Days will come and days will go
Dry your tears
For he’s better now, no more pain
Remember he’s an angel now with no more fears
