Note-Practice Run

in the barren days of winter
a leafless vine
wraps herself into his arms
wildly and calling
climbing his walls and trellises
as snow and ice overhang
white on white
creepers on creepers
evergreen possessing his face
with ivy
clinging closer
invasive and resolute
destroying other suitors in his garden bed
the friction of weather is cold but hot
… yearning to spring

Grandad what did you want to be when you were my age

he paused
pushing himself on the soft leather
shaped by his years
-Happy
his eyes beaming
below the arced trellises of his greyed out eyebrows

Dion rested at his grandfathers feet
His face in a contortion of bewilderment

-No, I mean as a job

The old man grasped a freshly iced can of
some sugar filled gloop
and poured it between them both

He gave a chuckle
disguising it as a cough
as the child held the glasses together to better measure the gloop
before placing one in his grandfathers hand

The giant princes and 7 people doesn’t have the same ring

-Okay what about Grumpy
pulling a fake gurn to his face
the tickle of his beard causing him to sneeze to easily

Dion yawned his grandfather wiping the sleep peadrops from his eye

Bashfully I must leave
but my grate NESS
Is documented

Glass illusions forestry of butterflies in flight
swiveling and turning wing, aiming for sun
hovering over lulling waters of purple hues
Breathing like flowers, frilling up the air
inside a cornucopia world of rich and bright

Birds are calling from afar symmetrical chirps
of grandeur, across the wide expanse
nocturnal illumination of the heart and soul
Varathane music sonatas, flute escapades
within a dormant brook, nature's usurp

Fairies, trellises, and magic twigs interlinked
inside the Foloi forest, the mighty oak respires
aside centaurs and dryads, of their time
an emerald green, bottled by nature herself
all is transformed here, even the sky is pinked

Altered, Remodeled, Reworked, Transformed,
by my sweet, poetic imagination...

Harvest Bounty

Season of harvest, horn of plenty;
Tiller of soil reaping the fields:
Grains and legumes, hay and vegetables,
Fruits and plants, and gourd family genuses;
Filling silos, barns, pantries, and cellars.

Grapes abound, on vines climbing trellises,
And plump, red tomatoes dangle from stakes,
While apples grapple to keep from falling,
And livestock fatten on pastoral grasses.
Reaper of fields to feed the many.

Crops quenched by rains and meandering streams
Are ripened under the inexhaustible sun
And spring forth produce abundance in season.
Cornucopia spilling over with autumn goodness.

Premium MemberA Hard Rain Fell

A hard rain fell over town last night
Beating down the crops in the field,
Disparaging still the farmer’s plight
A hard rain fell over town last night.
My flower bed is a depressing sight
The vined trellises I will not rebuild,
A hard rain fell over town last night
Beating down the crops in the field.

My flower bed is a depressing sight
A hard rain fell over town last night,
Disparaging still the farmer’s plight
Beating down the crops in the field.
The vined trellises I will not rebuild
Nature has taken the season’s yield.

[This is actually a "trionet," a
poetic form I invented which
extends the triolet and blends
with the sonnet form of 14
lines.]

Premium MemberThe Revlon Kiss

It was a sizzling summer of electric blues and vibrant hues
in a garden full of flowers inked in plushy spanking reds
a wall of buttress wood splashed with vines of green
a purple morning glory with a touch of dewy sheen
over by a mossy pond a mandarin duck of orangey blue

The sun turns amber like a big fat shimmering coin of gold
in a sky that often blushes fuchsia, pink, by a cloud's enfold
emerald blades of grass behind a white striped skunk
a gradient shade of orange, from a Siberian chipmunk
here by the royal blue bench, a vibrant peacock fans bold

It is a season of rainbow colored rain and red electric trains
in a terrace full of trellises of white, roses bright as Spain
blooming with vigor inside my bright oasis
happily connected to a Revlon kiss,
of cherry berry merry, on a girl named Mary Lou Fontaine

Spring Time

Little birds flitting here and there
playing joyfully, foraging;not a care.
As their exploring a whole new world
Flourishing; with their wings unfurled.

As winters brownness turns to green
flower buds are bursting what a scene.
Tulips and daffodils brighten the day
new generations are born upon hay.

We’re starting to see butterflies and bees,
new leaves begin to re cover the trees.
And as plants up trellises begin to climb
everything feels energised; it’s Springtime.

Premium MemberA Rose Passion

Through corridors of summer, on a garden path I walk,
Along the way of the roses, in the season of spice.
As beauty crowds the senses, making heartbeats rapid,
The bushes and rose trellises appear so well crafted.
Every conceivable color is represented here elegantly,
Like an explosion of diamonds had caused them to be!
Day in and day out, the glorious garden sings summer;
And birds trill to the beat of the selfsame drummer.
The enormous undertaking of one who was mad for roses,
People draw from far and near to see the reds and peach.
And vivid yellows oranges pinks golds greens and purple-
Such madness is catching, so the passion is spreading!

A Bouquet

A Bouquet

Astute; beautiful Chrysanthemums
Decadent earthly Foxglove
Gentle hands; immaculate
Judging Kaffir Lilies
Miniature noises orchestrated
Pretty; quiet Rudbeckia
Shocking trellises; ultimatums
Vermillion wonderful; extravagant

Smith-Gilbert trails — trellises of Georgia roses, the piney scent of conifers, plentiful perennials, the shady pond with splashing koi, the mulberry bowl, hand in hand — my grandson and I.

Etched

you left
but still
you linger,
you are summer
to my winter heart.
the truth is
you captivate me
in ways
no soul ever will.
constantly
consistently
continually
you.......
like delicate blooming jasmine trellises
butterflies
and
sunlight in a garden,
may these words
satisfy your soul.

Monster Trees

Monster trees reaching down through insane skies like spiders,
They see something coming in the green benign stretches,
We are the onion ring bearers wearing dark-day secrets.
We know what happens when bearded eyes shut tight,
When the dead wave from hearses designed for blind drivers,
As the hatchet girls crawl into the blast barges of mindless ropery,
Monster trees with long tentacled arms scoop up the night cats.
They reach for berries made of balsa wood and Melba toast;
They reach down from far distances seizing innocent souls crawling,
These ghost trees, floating as life clouds, through memory and time;
Through deserted forgotten neighborhoods with skeleton trellises.
We are the lettuce turners, the meat shredders, with raised hopeful fists.
Wearing chiffon camisoles made with Melba toast and dark-day secrets,
The hatchet girls raise lapping glasses of mad rum to the blast barges.

Premium MemberReturn To Grandeur

Those dreamy days of dulcet splendor reign
As songbirds fill the skies and buds appear
Sweet iris blossoms line the country lane
Their bearded lace announcing spring is here

The resurrection of once-frozen roots
Produces grandeur in each garden patch
As nature’s flowers don their finest suits
And nests appear in limbs where robins hatch

The debutants in chiffon gowns await
Slow dances with brash boys who’ll seek a kiss
‘Neath sequin stars rapt lovers speak of fate
As climbing buds on trellises dehisce

Cocoons are shed and butterflies step out
Earth’s kindest season ushers joy throughout

I love those flowers
 pleasant blossoms floral plants
cool lavender plants

walking the garden
I see blues, pinks, reds, orange
yellows and purples

picturesque lion tails
 cottage garden flowers smells
as I walk this trail

lions tails canna
 rose laden trellises climb
allamanda plants

cool lavender plants
 pleasant blossoms floral plants
as I walk this trail

Hit Or Miss

From their splendid new homes unto my brush
The cascades of colors come
To celebrate vines, fruit, healthy branches
For four and five hours' meditation
On John's Gospel (Chapter 15)

Meanwhile back at the ranch
Folks love the cross - as jewellery - not on canvas
Was I too loud, in your face, with my pretty trellis?
After all vines are most productive on trellises,
Or hidden crosses. Aren't they supposed to bear fruit?

Those who buy my acrylic crosses on Psalm 23
Or the more ubiquitous John 15, are few
They are wonderful Christmas & Thanksgiving gifts
(That pleased a dying Bill Diles in Athens, Ohio, years ago)
Yet any words of encouragement are welcome
For the four and five hours each canvas takes on days
When time oppresses with threats to excite with sins
That were usual in my youth, sex and such boring things,
So these meditations are welcome, LORD, for they say
You are changing my heart and renewing my mind
In my art, am I a little David, a man after Thy own heart?
