Promises are dubious transactions
made by lovers in their interactions,
often given by one without a thought
for affections of the moment, they have sought.
The naive, so often they believe,
words not meant really to deceive,
but spoken, in sincerest fashion,
in a moment of romantic passion.
Shakespeare said it and I agree,
"Neither a borrower nor a lender be".
The same might be said of promises -
we should all be doubting Thomases.
“You crown the year with Your goodness,
And Your paths drip with abundance.”
Psalm 34:11 NKJV
The year, two thousand, twenty six,
a year packaged with promises
like all years in the past have been...
a year of doubting Thomases
and those who take it on the chin.
Times’ passage is pretty well-fixed.
Of course, I’ll bring the drama, says
one who needs and seeks audience.
The year will spawn some trauma, ‘tis
expected from experience.
When eight billion folks intermix,
“why” and “how” of their premises
varies greatly, triggers tension
which aims to crush one’s nemesis.
Passions take on hate’s dimension.
Thus so, this twenty, twenty-six
may more try what the psalmist said
to crown this year with God’s goodness.
Share divine peace and calm instead
with love that only He could bless.
I hold three magic rocks, in my hand.
Rolling them over and over and over.
Leaving reality behind, far behind.
once an eagle
with a clipped wing
attempting
without surrender to once again
command the infinite azure sky;
continually nosediving
whenever tossed in the air.
his convalescence
punishingly long;
now complete.
embarking on a mission
to quiet doubting Thomases
that sounded a death knell for him
and laughed him off as
a paper plane
incapable of flying
far beyond the horizon...
look at him today!
look at him soaring above
majestically;
his journey
from the depth of asperity
to the dizzying heights of majesty...
m a g i c a l:
almost miraculous.
he's withered
the slings and arrows of life
intact; he's in flight once again
a testament
to his strength and resilience.
They dress for theater with gloves up to their elbows
The Roosevelts, Thomases, Rockafellers, and Shelbows.
They wear their glitziest tiaras, while carrying their fans.
On their arms they show off their tuxedo-wearing mans.
propelled by an interior mechanism
you, because you dare dream leviathan dreams;
there's an enduring fire raging within you...
just follow that fire!
pay no attention to doubting Thomases.
get out of your head; don't give in to self-doubt.
let nothing knock you off your trajectory...
just follow that fire!
within you, a fire of determination.
believe that every dream you dream is valid,
believe that you can accomplish all your goals...
just follow that fire!

Remember back when you were a kid
Every day was a wonderful adventure
Exciting things to explore and investigate
Do frogs have pearly white dentures
Or why do elephants weigh so much
Weight Watchers might do them some good
What about a nasty old lion's bad temper
Did they not have a loving childhood
So many questions, I'm full of questions
Like why are most horses so nice
They never get upset when a bridle's put on
But heard one kicked a man twice
Then there's the sweet old teddy bear
Some have vowed they've never heard 'em talk
I got news for all you doubting Thomases
Sometimes they even go for a walk
Found some hootch down in the basement
Twenty-year-old brandy I suspect
When I sober up and read what I wrote
Might swear off the booze by heck
DOUBTING PROMISES
Holding to promises
But I let go
Never realizing, what I was in for
I am not the doubting Thomases
