Premium Member THEORETICALLY SPEAKING

Theoretically speaking
I have a theory
It is my theory
I will share it with no-one
For they might make it their theory
Thus, it would no longer be my theory
But our theory
In theory, my theory
Would still be mine
But a theory shared
May be a theory lost
In the battle to claim its origin
To seek to profit from it

Theories are like blueberry pancakes
Best savored in silence
With real maple syrup
And some theoretical bacon

That’s one of my theories
Perhaps I shouldn’t have shared it

Dammit…the theoretical inquisition has begun

Don't Call It A Poem

It could be mistaken for a shopping list,
or a set of instructions
for assembling a bookshelf,
but you had to go and call it a poem!

Eventually you learn
by the daily application of ignorance and error,
to ride a poem as if it were a unicycle
even so, the larger the wheel
the greater the chance
of a slow-motion fender-bender.

Unless you want to be metaphorically crucified
or theoretically burnt at a stake
for God’s sake don’t give this thing that you do
any kind of definitive name.

Hinged or unhinged they are most often
just thoughts squiggling up to a surface
like worms after a heavy rain,
simply deconstructed word-worms,

but that’s okay
you already said that,
so now you can look cool
and kind of a deep thinker.

Premium Member Know Regrets

From ES to ES

Here’s the thing
I don’t really know
What life would be if I declared the truth
I heard you say you were unlovable
Yet I declined to speak
A Delorean moment
An everlasting “if only…”
A coward’s regret
All of that and more
The life I could have had
A haunting presence as I pace my cell
It seems supreme but who can tell?

Here’s the thing
I haven’t got a clue
What makes you tick and gets you feeling good
I idolize your ever little nuance
Pretend I mean as much to you
A hypothetical perfect match
A theoretically blessed union
An ineffably joyous pairing
As only I could conjure up
The wife I could have had
A loving presence as I stumble through the day
Appears so dear but who can say?

Here’s the thing
I’m in the dark
As to the thing that could have made me yours
And now I’m sure you’ve heard the news
I hope at least it took you by surprise
An unspeakable crime
A horrifying action
A man you thought you know
Who used to make you laugh
The life we could have had
A sobering presence but I hope you’re living well
I bet you are but who can tell?

Premium Member A Man of Faith

God told Abraham his descendants would be
as many as the stars of the sky…
…as the sands of the sea

  Single stars are countable
    as are grains of sand...
       ...at least theoretically

Abraham, yet childless, accepted G-d’s word
~ giving nary a thought to practicality

Alexandra

Be my nemesis
be theoretically fundamental
to yourself
Spit your spit in the sky fountain
Throw florid ladies out of windows
Their winkles falling away
like shredded paper

Guardian Angel Intervention?

Can it be
without surety
no guarantee

Might it be
a miracle
not typical
seems mystical

Perhaps coincidence
or happenstance
what's the chance

Theoretically
it will always be
a Mystery!

When

When I die
will the sky be rhetorical,
will it still turn red at eventide
or shall the world die with me?

I think it may become
a hypothetical fur-ball,
just an idea
I had been anxious about
for neigh on 74 years...

...a theory now caught within a dying throat;
just a little furry representation of the world
that will pass away with me
into the next imaginative realm...

...all of which would be convincing evidence
of an afterlife ---- except
that I will have left all my earth memories
in a leather suitcase full to the brim
with assorted junk
that I had lost, mislaid, or discarded
over a lifetime

and so ----- theoretically
I may have to dream-up a new red sunset sky
and begin again.

Premium Member Surprising Elders

I wonder if there are Elders
wise
or more perennially surprised
who, looking back at their youth,
regret all their erotic time
invested in having peak
experiential sex,

And wish they had, instead,
done something, most anything,
more left brain dominant,
more theoretically
politically correct,
more economically prominent.

I so hope not.

Better off, I feel sure,
invested in abundant splatters of messy,
sometimes musical, health

Than overly divested
away from EarthTribe's gloriously peaking race
carried away by abstemious matters
of more disciplined pace
for securing capital infested wealth.

Not Yet

I do not love you
I love possibilities
Ideas
Creativity
Abstracts over absolutes
Exploration
Experimentation
Who we might be
who we could be
theoretically
if certain variables
would happen to be true
If in your presence
I found this veil
obstructing my vision
lifted from my eyes
able to see
colors once again
bold and bright
instead of muted hues
If we were to discover
synchronicity of
our energy in
pursuing our endeavors
If not only my words
but the heart beating
behind them mattered to you
I don’t seek perfection
but maybe you do
Perhaps that’s the problem
I don’t love you

She

She was theoretically true.
 She was always like that.
 She was never rigid, stubborn
 But she was theoretically true.

But when the actual test happened
I found myself looking for her, inside me
In dreams, in agony, in painful realization
I felt the more correct she was, the more damaging too

The more righteous she was, the harder it became to reach her.

 And now…
I am reading the open book of life
 And realizing once again…
 She was theoretically true.

Spirit's Transform

Theoretically,
we die from the moment conceived

Functionally,
we die when beset with disease

That space in between…
the land of our dreams

Where spirit’s transform
—our souls to release

(Villanova Pennsylvania: December, 2019)

Intuition

"How good is your intuition,
When assessing the situation

Theoretically,
Or analytically

To be witness to,
Or deciding for you

The net result,
Of former doubt

Is it derived,
By good vibes

Is it a premonition,
Or educated supposition

It it insight combined with fact,
To determine the final act

Or is it obvious to recall,
Like handwriting on the wall

Maybe it’s like reading tea leaves in a cup,
With all the events and nuances to add up

Or don’t if your not inclined,
In reading everyone’s mind

Like a moth that builds a cocoon,
Emerging as a butterfly soon

Our thoughts and observations are woven,
To see the goal we have chosen

Or the mentality of emotion,
Be it person or place with devotion

For much can be left unsaid,
Requiring your intuition instead

So take a moment to suppose,
What your insight will propose"
