The divine flame, the torch of eternal truth lit,

And passed it onto Pope's Leo XIV trembling hand

Who, fervently, prayed to our God almighty,

Peace and love to bring, upon men's tormented land.

Grocery Poem Xiv
At any given moment, someone is stocking shelves

Putting the ping-pong balls next to the beer,
Ketchup next to the hot dog buns,
Strawberries next to the shortcake mixes.

In the parking lot cherry pits line the concrete gutters

All things in their proper place....

Robert Francis Prevost:
a brilliant man but not one to boast.
He brings a message of peace, love and hope,
and holy smoke! He’s the new pope.

Robert Francis Prevost:
as Leo XIV, he will not coast.
And another thing we know about the man:
he is a devoted baseball fan!

Grocery Poem Xiv
some people smile with their eyes
some people frown with their eyebrows
some people celebrate with candles & fireworks
some people mourn among cans of black beans

like the woman I saw,
sobbing with her eyes & mouth
in aisle twelve

some people don’t have a safe place to cry...

I Will Be There
By Lord R.e. Taylor

I can feel your fears building inside of you
The sound of your cries is all I can hear
I need you to know that I am still here
Heaven knows how much you mean to me
So, no matter how long we are apart
My love will always be there to protect you

When she was a little girl
Two wars filled her streets
Her father served as a POW
Locked in a British prison camp
Disease took so many others
Many she knew
Even with all of that, she was a child
Even after nearly a century
She remembered Breslau in its beauty
The hometown she left behind

Premium Member Freedom
cheerful now
as my heart drifts back in time
seeing things I would never see
doing things I would never do
living the dreams that were
empty of thought
no need for plans
no time or distance
just space to accept and to deny
space to say yes or no
freedom
free to just live
free....

Xiv: Forced Excursion Again
Sir –
Late in the noon as usual
Came the vergers with the sharp bells
(Prof, a roused lad saw not the Vicar)
Announcing another blessed excursion;

Of course, Sir –
The endemic hubbub
Reigned in the nest
To be vacated in a hurry;

And the piecing bells
Hinted of the swords in the rafter
Plunged in full poise by pig-watcher
(Prof, a roused lad saw the inscription)
‘Flee, meet the siren at midnight else!’...

Xiv: Vehement Condolences
Darest V.C. –
We all heard of the flute of the regency,
Tho’ it told of a few in the house-pital:
Yet we know it was the exordium!

Darest V.C. –
Tell the vergers of the gods,
The forest is expecting
The full exegesis of the gods;

She was heir to the heavy blows
– The heinous death of the sons –
The mothers & the concubines sigh
For a loss of kindred tears,
And restless fathers hover in waiting forests....

XIV.

Come now before thee vested only in Equity.

Arbiter for non-save the spirit of the Doctrine.

Upon which that is inscribed upon the foundations are intrinsic.

Immutable and indelible.

Say now what cause exist to bar those that supplicate to thee.

Be not deaf to thine supplicant’s.

Avert not your gaze.

Before you subjected to thy query.

In resolute prayer.

Premium Member Your Real Love
I am really surprised I didn’t see it
You never needed to find a man
It is easy to see now that you knew all the time
You figured out something very few people know
The truest love you can find can show up anytime
Even when you hold your first furry friend close
That love you both will have can never be beaten
And we all know that the two of you will last forever
Just the way love is supposed to be

What have some people been doing
Chasing innocent people
Those of us with normal feelings
We are being forced to hide
Being told if we use their minds
Ignoring everything we are told
That we will no longer exist
But some of those people are really cowards
With no power to show anyone
So, think what you want and do the same
Laugh at what is funny
Feel free to speak out
Then tell them to kiss your ass
And just watch how fast they run

Celebrating 50:Xiv
I hear mento music making night sweet
See women shuffling hips and light feet
Feel the rhumba box humming in my heart
Gombay grumbling breaks the bass apart
My soul surrenders to her salacious flute
And shakes like a maracca to contribute
To festive dance with toombah repeating
The bottle torch lits up the opague night
And fireflies come the years remembering
And they guided Tacky to that ancient fight
For patrimony and human rights to meet
Where Jamaica stands soveriegn above defeat....

Weak Spots Xiv
I love a mouth that tries,
And a heart that bleeds,
Yet is still determined to live—
Despite the absence of peace

And absence has its beauty,
Without needing to be filled with
Anything—absence is profound as a
Drop that fails to reach its end

The anticipating sound
Of its final plunge—
A drop that dissipates before it hits
The promiseless bottom

I love a mouth that speaks
When it is closed
It smiles and knows there
Will be a sound after the emptiness
