We recently lost my Grandpa
It took a toll on my Grandma
she took to the bottle
an unstable waddle
tripped on him hiding – such chutzpah!
Ballad monger sang effervescent song
trickster rhymester thinks he is rarely wrong
tasteless verse
sometimes worse
a poetaster all the week long
When a leprechaun tightly I caught,
I was hoping for gold in a pot.
But that trickster escaped.
At my hands I just gaped.
His wee britches were all that I got.
THE TRICKSTER
Oh, mighty time,
What a trickster you are,
Presenting, each year,
Your old wrinkled face,
As new!

Loki son of giant's
and bender of rules
Trickster of gods
Ignorer of fools
He's the sight of the spring time
The sower of oats
Deity of mayhem
Of fire and smoke
Cautiously, creeping, close to the ground
Aloof, mysteriously independent. Assertive about what food he’ll consume,
Trickster, sneaking around, following his own agenda.
Nevermore the river styx shall ye reach
The trickster has played his tricks leaving your bones to bleach
Take ye heed in life be fair or in death the raven will steal your fare.
Jaunty little fellow,
Joker for kings and queens.
Jolly bells on hat, shoes,
Jingle with his movements:
Jumping, dancing, bowing.
Jabs fun at all he can,
Jovial trickster man.
Trying too hard
to appear he’s not trying
Saying too much
without saying a thing
Shapeshifting lover
the fire his mistress
Locked in an image
—whose essence is damned
(The New Room: June, 2023)
Life's left with impression
Through this, its last view;
A trickster magician's
Show of light, askew?
Just then, upright in bed
Startled, wept for bliss.
"That bird, divinely sweet
No illusion is!"
Prancing purple polliwogs playing prissily
Querying querulous quail quite quietly
Reviving romantic roosters respectfully
Sassy swooning swans sighted saucily
Tempting tenuous trickster trout tastefully
Surely there is a sly trickster in the sky tonight
He’s pulled a magic cape slowly across the moon
As there could never be scientific explanation
For the golden beauty seen and gone too soon….
I maybe a trickster and a joker
I maybe a day dreamer and a mystery
I maybe a beach bum and a bookworm
but I am still as sweet as Sky Juice
and as gentle as a raft
floating and drifting
inside of a shallow lagoon

a confidence trickster who always said, “I can !”
he could do any strenuous task when at sea
on land, he follicked with Queen Bea !
Its long way but shorter,
easy way to reach faster,
do it today avoid later,
Never delay make it faster,
Hearsay never counter,
Always is a trickster,
Stay away never tester,
You hey take foster,
One day gonna be greater,
PICK OF THE LITTER
The other pups sold for eight hundred,
a thousand. She was bought, returned.
Too bright, too hard. A diamond.
We got her for a prayer,
and now we’re paying.
Oh those trickster-
sparkling eyes.
She’s price-
less.
sneaky and crafty
zany and wacky
playing some practical jokes
leaving you covered in egg yolks
having a wicked sense of humor
Being a stylish crooner
Not being uptight
Making your life bright
Is there room for comedy
well, probably
Don't trick me.
That's not nice.
Next time you do, I'll be sure to destroy you!
When I come back I won't be happy.
I'll beat you to a pulp and leave you to die.
I won't lose.
I'll destroy you.
Just wait next year.
When I come back to haunt you.
Somewhere through Eden’s leas
skulks our forgotten foe.
Seraph of God, now a
slithering trickster who
swayed Eve to taste vile fruit.
Salvation fell away;
sin dwells in mankind’s heart.

Faith demands we hope for
What cannot be true;
Hope insists we believe
In what will never be.
They are trickster twins
Commanding our allegiance,
Wishing us disappointment, despair and oblivion.
I prefer to trust my wits, sight and a little love.
Gemini
air sign
intelligent and clever
a trickster if she does not like you
a lap puppy if she does
following you home, loving you until the day you die
even if you throw her off your lap and kick her
Gemini
She has loyal tendencies that can wound herself

the cuckoo is a lazy trickster
she lays her eggs in bush warbler’s nest
remember Mayzie LaBird in Dr. Seuss’s book Horton Hears the Who?
Bush warbler is tricked by cuckoo bird.
She thinks the eggs are hers.
Takes care of them until they hatch
And then raises cuckoo’s baby as her own.
Bugs Bunny
A trickster who is always funny
What's up doc?, He loudly said
As he hid under Elmer's bed
Elmer Fudd
He is known as quite a dud
Elmer's always chasing that rabbit
Never to nab it, has become his habit

Your soft, lilting lullaby
I struggle and fail to stay alert
Drooping eyelids are hard to fight
Close them, now, and sleep
"Do not wake from my spell" it whispers.
"Sleep for me, my young soul" it hisses
Dreams and nightmares become one
How I long to awaken once more
And to be free of the trickster
