Apollo now guards
my Prose and my Verse
His Swan sings at last,
—the Raven in search
(Villanova Pennsylvania: April, 2017)
Twilight torpid pond
Shadow falls on lily pad
Silence broken, croak
Autumn plume of winter air
Watery hibernation.
SWAN SONG
black ice fools
swans’ midnight landing
feathers slide
winds laughter
tickles newborn twigs
raven’s smirk
Victoria Anderson-Throop
Melancholy melody of mania and madness.
Ceaseless Swan song a symphony of sadness.
Counter to composure comes cacophony of chorus.
Oscillating operatic overture of Opus.
The opera singer sang her high
note,
Fell dead, husband stood there
to gloat.

The change in the air is palpable
Winter wrens are singing
Their swan song...
Spring is nigh!

Amazing, surprising
Splashing, displaying, underwhelming
Sometimes I'd dream about foreshadowing

Swan song - A Didactic Cinquain
by James Edward Lee Sr.©2019
How many objects were there?
And of those that remain.
Then from the great Moon
An ageless quote came.
About an unknown led goat.
The swan song was not played.
A Small Obelisk of note.

When scuba diving in Iceland need to wear long johns
Under your wet suit, at 32F, you'll never see swans
They tried wearing sweaters
Now they know better
Otherwise, they'd have been singing their swan song
seek beauty in being
feel the loving faith in omnipresent Supreme
inspiring
bathe, radiate
softness of the silver moonbeam
relate
swan song
fulfill a dream
long
seek beauty in being
softness of the silver moonbeam
long
Lovelorn;
My love,
Breaking my heart,
Left me forever to
mourn.
Forlorn;
I Lament,
Singing the blues,
My pining heart pleads:
Return!

Swan Song
I slid silently past
soft silenced down
laid in rest
amid fresh sprouted grasses
no viewing hours posted
only the few drifters
heads bowed
paddles idled
an homage
to nature’s beauty
spent.

When scuba diving off Iceland, you need to wear long johns
Under your wet suit, it's so freaking cold, you'll never see swans
They tried wearing sweaters
Now they know better
Otherwise they would've been singing their swan song
Why do I go on singing song after song?
Because the times I have been most alive in my life
are those precious moments I spend,
well, just loving you, sweet Susan,
just loving you.
Christopher M. Swan, “Song of Susan,” 2008
in change of season
autumn makes a grand entrance ~
with subtly chilled winds
twirl then arabesque
leaves are dancing a ballet ~
unscripted, unstaged
one last performance
their swan song without encore ~
bare, the maple limbs
Beauty and serenity meet
and become inspiration.
Silently gliding on liquid love.
Cool and calm floating gracefully,
the majestic swan
silently calling, beckoning,
"Join me".

Today you seem so wondrous fair,
your lips and cheeks and eyes and hair
so touched with angel shining grace,
that I, poor beggar, take my seat
and wait in wonder at your feet,
to catch a glimpse of heaven’s face.
Christopher M. Swan, “Song of Susan,” 2008
In Judaeo-Christian cultures, when we equivocate, evil as
good, it marks the very beginning of our soul’s swan song.

The calendar announced today the first day of Fall,
But the weather in South Georgia did not hear the call.
It is near 90 today, and Fall is in hiding.
It is Summer's swan song, and it keeps on smiling.

Not simply these
Something's wrong
Ponzi scheme
Moral's lost
Wanton greed
Swan song
Eagle scream
Far too long
Keep the dream
Leave what's wrong
Change the scene
Stay Strong
Keep the dream
Move on
Easy to See
Things are Wrong
Keep the Dream
Stay Strong
a bluebird dives
graceful sullen and dramatic
as if performing its last swan song
then in late afternoon gone
the sun in backdrop
tickles wispy clouds
speechless i inhale the magic
of an exquisite day of fall
wishing it would never end

Breathtaking build up
With Santa’s coming
Hoping for snowfall
Christmas caroling
And season’s greetings
An endless list
So much to do
Festive details
Invitations
Midnight mass
Excitement
In the air
Did it~
Survived
Whew!

Like any given star,
no matter how distant you are,
you become brighter still,
and I guess you always will
as I learn better yet to know
undimmed radiance, steady glow
of your magical self and the hope
you still bestow on this lovesick dope.

Steppin’ Off
My Platform
I
Will
Miss you,
It’s only so long
And not a swan song
I have projects awaiting
They need some attention
An untenable encumbrance
Far too many to mention
So I’ll be takin’ time out
Or bound to get worse
September First
Steppin’ off
In this quiet aftersea
of beach and sky,
where my dreams
mingle with the clouds,
and clouds touch the sea,
your hair hangs down
sunwarm on my skin,
brushing all
my thoughts away,
and then, then, nothing
is found on my body
but this memory
of you.
