Suburbs
walking the suburbs
breath takes the smell of gardens
unlike the city center

living on suburbs
the stench of the city's smog
oft spoils the mood of dinner

There’s a terrible disease going aroun’,
And I’m afraid this is a fact, not fiction;
In the country, the suburbs, even downtown -
It’s the horrifying rhyming addiction....

Dark is the night
          under the moonshadow,
           walking to the suburbs
            with a one way ticket,
               going to nowhere
                 to be be found....

In the suburbs
The firepits
Are lite to burn
Whatever it it is-
To burned stinks

With the thick scent
The air is thick
Making it hard to breathe
Firepits do not belong

Thought About Fleeting Things
How precious the November sun
that gilds the leaves with its low beam
and lights the last geraniums.
A few remaining roses gleam
and shimmer on their stems.
So for a while summer seems
to linger in the suburbs....

Cyber Age
At this time and age
We need the web
Just to communicate
Without it
There is too much time
on our hand
Like a walk
Or the gym
Soon we all
Move away from our suburbs
Cyber space is building
New real estate
In the meantime

Liquid Senses
Another unwanted
passes through memories
down mundane streets
suburbs undaunted

available liquid pass
tempted nostril senses
youth invaded stolen by
unpure pretenses

soft like shreds of life
tears of laughter
preserve treads
to a childhood lost to
hereafter...

Snow In the Suburbs
A cheap imitation toy
Next a deep colored strewn rose
In a house in the 'burbs
     At nighttime under heavy snow.

     A faltering streetlamp
     Near an unretrieved upturned trash barrel;
A backyard dog looks out to lick the snow.
     Then silence for a while....

I Am
I am above, easy skyline, the rest is shown
I am a man, for whom we carry answer calls.
Like rain, the colors fall.
I am Proton, Spinning rings of things colliding
I am glass, shattered shapes that disperse in motion.
I am Man, on to the highway pass and railway.
I am trashcan, littered suburbs by the social men....

Innuendo About Ghetto
Innuendo About Ghetto

Florida looks pretty with many palmetto
And why in central city is there a ghetto
After feeling sorry white people with pity
Moved to suburbs outside of the city
About ghetto life they made an innuendo.

Jim Horn

What a sad state of affairs.

Suburbs
Beep, Honk, Crash

The city is in an uproar, but from the outside, it sits in

Silence

A series of quiet calm buildings

Flashing with lights and holding the souls of millions in the palm of its hand

Like you and me

The fear of being a big city, of being ourselves because instead, we sit in

Silence

Living in a world of suburbs...

Our Lives
You sleep, I dream,
imagining tomorrow
and all the tomorrows,
of our life.

Will we have children,
change jobs,
buy a house in the suburbs,
have outdoor barbeques?

Perhaps we'll stay in the city,
live in a loft.
decorate in bold colors
and ride our bikes to work.

You sleep, I dream,
imagining tomorrows,
and all the tomorrow
of our love....

Lawn furniture flavored ice cream
	served in moxa cups
Candied eyes of freshwater bream
	pickled bushdog pups.

Pig pizzle wrapped around a stick
	grilled upon the deck
Woven rope with cat head and brick
	hung about your neck.

Marzipan violin bowed by a stoat
	badminton played widdershins
A toast of poison without antidote
	barefoot on needles and pins....

Dad Did Not Quit
Can we talk over dinner?
I’ll be composed,
Salad a middleman
On orange china.
I won’t stare daggers
I’ll only look gently
You won’t upset me
You won’t cry
Tablecloth a barrier
Of polite normalities
No last words.
No hard feeling.
You’ll drift atop
Jello molds,
An angel in suburban hell.
You won’t tell me
You quit your job,
And our haven
Will remain bubble wrapped....

Premium Member Dropping Out of School
juggling three jobs
raising four kids
mediocre pay
thoroughly exhausted
she finally has to give up
lets her kids go to the state
because she cannot feed them
given to a couple who live in the suburbs
who will always choose their own children over hers
dropping out of school seemed right
when she was sixteen and depressed
but now she has regrets
is it too late?
Probably....

Zoom To the Rescue
The morning was rainy
And warm but they said
That temps would be dropping
To freezing instead.

Thus, out in the suburbs
An email was sent
That schools would be closed;
Safety was their intent.

So, Zoom to the rescue!
The kids are prepared.
From travel on icy roads
All would be spared.

Back when I was teaching
When there was no tech,
We drove and hoped not to
End up in a wreck....

Peace and Quiet
In the suburbs and the country
When the night arrives,
You can feel the darkness
Where the silence thrives.

For a city gal,
Used to lights and noise,
You would think such peace
Would bring endless joys.

Though my sleep improves
When the quiet reigns,
There is something lost
Which negates the gains.

Though it might sound nuts
(And I'm sure it does),
In the burbs I miss
All that city buzz....

Cold autumn purge
Cold freezing surge

By this front porch
Not much to notch

By these suburbs
See the blank kerbs

Watch the lone street
Where no one meets

Not much to say
No face today

Closed doors wary
Cold air lonely

Not much to see
What yet may be

Grass verge now airs
Cold autumn flair

A dirge seeds cold
Seize wit that folds

Squares
Busy square around me sucking me inside
Keeping me from seeing what's on the outside
Building shell surrounds me squared off like a hide
Standing on a corner; a square; a block; that's wide

Quilted district patterns are mapped across the land
while larger squares protruding shows zoning had a hand
Suburbs of the city squaring boundaries they have spanned
When all that's left are gullies squared by nature that are fanned....

London today
Into the lead spin
broken bottles and knives appear
locked by electric sparks
that bring you back to life
over the once warren where rabbits roamed
we go shoplifting in London so fare
The Police turn a blind eye
Its maud parlez vous Francais
Into the dark where English is not heard
London spins
the serpents of the Thames are half lionized
Who needs excuses
into the grim
where the exposed suburbs are sullied

Premium Member One More Trip
For the thrill of the high or for reasons arcane
A girl from the suburbs shoves a needle up her veins
But her parents send her off to rehab
For a second chance at sanity to grab
To find joy instead of pain

She had been off the stuff for quite a while
Trying to give up a destructive lifestyle
But she was haunted by the ghosts of the past
And took one more trip on a heroine blast
But this journey, would be her last....

Premium Member Hypodermic Illusions
Pine needles fall on manicured lawns
on quiet streets where elm trees grow
But in their midst a demon yawns
And screams through veins from which it flows

 Hypodermic illusions line the curb
where cars are parlors for getting high
 Overdosing in the suburbs
The inner city has no alibi

 A nightmare on elm street
and Freddy Kruger is nowhere in sight!
But the boogeyman does not retreat....
yet some will not awaken from the night!...
