The 50's

In this decade: pizza, soda, Colonel Sanders, burgers only fifteen cents; "Tutti Frutti," sock hops, "mooning," Rock and Roll (monumental consequence); Rosa's bus ride, suburbs, fluoride, escalating sales, vaccine for polio; Mickey Mouse Club, Haley, Hitchcock, Davy Crockett, drive-ins, Fats Domino; Causeless Rebel crashing car, bouffant hairdos, "har dee har har;" Elvis on TV and ME.

What a great description of the good ole fifties. I really liked the last two words (obviously you weren't raised in the fifties, but that's where your heart remains). I feel like I'd fit it in more if I was born a couple decades earlier... the music (for the most part) was better, more real... and I'm just plain not good at computers (aside from using the internet, haha)...

i was the first to comment on this, and it as drawn me back i've alway loved this, i tell my grandchildren all the time that the 50's was the best era ever, the fact it was one of simplicity, safety, and Rock 'n' Roll. also you memtion four of my all time favourite artists, Elvis,Little Richard (Tutti Frutti) Bill Haley, and Fats Domino, goes down very well with me. Here in the uk i've just managed to purcased Bill Haley-Comets first three LP's on vinyl, these are so rare, boy i just love that R'n'R. harry

awesome, Andrea! You give me a trip back in time. Delightful memories. (Gosh, I still love Hitchcock movies, but am glad to see the bouffant hairdos gone.) AS for my limerick, I just feel betrayed and truly doubt his sincerity now. I was hoodwinked into voting for him -- bought the lies because I wanted to believe. Perhaps the language is too harsh for some, but it's how I feel now.) Best wishes in the numbers contest. Yours is one of the few poems that has meaning. Love, Carolyn

hehe, I should write a poem about 66, my birth year, the only time we won the world cup (and judging by this year's performance it will be a long time til we win it again. Really enjoyed your poem Andrea, particularly the 'causeless rebel' line. (typo on escalating). Good luck in the contest ~ Sharon
