1964
What was it with the year nineteen sixty four?
That made our dreams seem so much more.
Now dreams lie dormant behind locked door.
This is so removed from what was hoped for....

“turn the table”

from sweet to sour is my listening taste
broken bouzouki Greek wedding plates

Premium Member The Sixty-Four Dollar Question
Now that my love is the sixty-four dollar question.
Named for a TV show back in the 40’s, before most of you were born.
Maybe even before your parents were born.
And guess what the grand prize was in the 40’s?
You guessed it!...

When I'M 64
When I’m Sixty-Four

In days of Sergeant Pepper,
When I was twelve years old,
The Beatles recorded a track,
That was Pepper solid gold.

A tune written tongue and cheek,
“When I’m Sixty-Four”
Never believing when I was twelve,
I could ever reach that score....

She votes Democrat; he is a die-hard Republican.
She goes to church; he is allergic to it.
She reads fiction; he reads comic books.
She watches documentaries; he watches the fights.
They are together for sixty-four years before he passes.
Now she watches the fights and cartoons, missing him greatly....

When I'M Sixty Four
When I'm Sixty Four by Rick Rucker Now that the New Year has begun, I'm going to work harder, to be sure to get things done! Last year, I was content to Let It Be, But I was a youngster, a mere lad of sixty three! In a couple weeks, I'll have that luxury no more, I'll have to try so much harder, When I'm Sixty Four!

Parrots
When you growing older
The ugly parrots of birthdays
Delightfully remind your age
You tell them shut up
They cry out loudly
Once these parrots
Were sweet nightingales
Singing nicely on the early days
Twenty one
Twenty two
Twenty three
And now with a nasty voice
As boaster parrots
Break your eardrums
Sixty three
Sixty four
Sixty five....

Premium Member Did They Always Wiggle Like This
The squirming boy was almost too much
Barber Bill was getting aggravated
Did they always wiggle like this? He wondered
Actually, they did.

The thing is…
Barber Bill’s hands are not steady any more
He probably should not be cutting hair of small boys
But he will continue,

Believing himself much steadier
And younger than he is
Feeling twenty, instead of his sixty-four....

Keno Baby
Keno Baby

My wife and I liked to play keno
Just about every weekend we would go

She was pregnant and due any day
Over an hour’s ride each way

Other players would say
Your going to give birth today

We got home and went to bed
It’s that time my wife had said

Her water broke on the floor
Our first was born in nineteen sixty four

It was almost a maybe
That we had a keno baby...

Premium Member A Special Day
It is one of God’s own treasures
		Presented unto me
In a frame of golden sunshine
		On sea of tranquility.

This day is worth the waiting
		The other three sixty four
And it comes with his solemn promise
		He will be sending more.
		Forgive me for lamenting
When skies were dark and gray.
They were part of the formula
		For creating this special day.

Just Sixty Four
One hundred and eighty words you say
For to write a poem and make your day
Attempting a task for to do as you ask
As striving towards your criteria to meet
For me that would be such a massive feat
My poems can be too long
your attention span I’d lose
So I’ll submit
this little bit
and hope it’s mine you choose

I lost my queen,
And I just started.
My will to proceed,
Has departed!

I grab my hair,
And look at my knights...
I fear my defence will soon fall,
As my opponents bishops bring fright!

Perhaps some trickery,
And I will survive;
'En Passant!"
My pawn does drive!

Then there was a dance,
Between their king and their rook!
And a vocalized dart, 'checkmate!'...
Where sixty-four squares violently shook!!

Premium Member Ten Times Ten Twirling Frog
Ten-times-twenty twirling frog was from Mathematics Town.
She danced her numbers better than any clown.
She spun sixes and sevens as if they were not straight.
I was impressed she could multiply up to twenty-eight.

I saw her divide sixty-four-thousand-and-twenty-two
By many numbers that I could never hope to do.
I do not do math, it is not my talent, interest, or game.
So I am glad we have ten-times-twenty, who has an appropriate name....

Cousin Eddy was incredibly fun.
Thought everything was delightful.
Smiled and laughed; a joy to the family.
More than anyone I ever met, he was happy.
I often thought he was too good for this world.
God thought so too.
Took him home when he was four.
Sixty-four years later I remember Cousin Eddy’s smile and his laugh.
I can shut my eyes and see him as if it is 1956.
I think he knew he was on loan, so he had to spread joy
As fast as he could....

When the fab four hit the floor
Back in the year of sixty four
We all would scream and shout
Now we wonder what it was all about
We bought the records one by one
Long discarded these discs now done
Songs that have come and gone
Sweet memories of a favorite one
Let It Be was the one I liked
Records to number one did spike
Now a couple guys are dead and gone
Now Paul sings to them a tribute song
Memories will linger of the past
Beatle Mania will survive and last.

two, four, eight, and more
sixteen, thirty-two, sixty-four
doubling, doubling
troubling, troubling

keep on going at least four more
you’ll find yourself at a thousand twenty-four
doubling, doubling
troubling, troubling

what if we go another four more
sixteen thousand three eighty-four
doubling, doubling
troubling, troubling

time to stop, just four more
two hundred sixty-two thousand one hundred forty-four
I’ll stop now, don’t want to bore
all have even numbers as their core...
