The quicksand of life ever flowing
struggle to be bound within its knowing
liberation lies beyond the illusion controlling
Oracle, Arizona gold
Is just a tale prospectors told
If you walk that land
You will find quicksand
And underneath that its just cold
Quicksand hope hollow inside,
deranged dreams subside.
Shaky footsteps falter,
hourglass sands capture.
Life loses the prop.
There once a dare devil named Dan
smugly swung with only one hand
forgot and let go
of the rope in tow
sank in a thick pool of quicksand.
Like tan quicksand
I sink into your touch
Losing myself yet gaining
A new set of love wings
Flying me newly made
Into a private universe
Mired in a quagmire
Of quicksand and sin
Why not forsake rayless
Dusk for the eternal
Dawn of blissful Bodhi?

Reason to sing
A wedding planned
Passion's quicksand
Soon afterward ~
Romance interred
The helicopter tried to land
On a place that was already ban
It starts to sink slow
Torn to pieces, even the door
Parts scattered, over a bed of quicksand
You can’t argue or reason
your way
into transcendence
Sinking deeper
with each formula drawn
—and truism proclaimed
(Wayne Pennsylvania: March, 2020)
Comfortably I'd sit here and settle
unaware my office chairs a rebel
like quicksand
I'd need a hand
as my chair would sink to a new level.

Anger to me is
Wet and red
And sucks like quicksand
And war is black and loud
With fathers’ screams
Mother’s fists
And children’s silence
I fear both
pulling me gently
into a quagmire
not in a quicksand way
but slowly
methodically
sneakily
steadily
until I disappear
into wet cement
forgetting
I ever
was
Stripping the fingertips off your hand
Snaps quickly, just like a rubber band
You type so fast
Words that will last
Flying speed, it’s nothing like quicksand

gold grains of calm beach cradles

A pall of darkness overshadows my existence
I am a mummy wrapped in worthless thoughts
sinking in the devil's quicksand of hell.

Lulubelle and Annabelle hats in hand
Found a magic fantasy fairyland
Wearing their fancy knickers
And matching party slippers
Frolicked unaware of nearby quicksand

America’s decline…
war chanted whines
A nation in half
quicksand in our path
Altruism dead
alone in our beds
No one left to blame
—married to our shame

Standing over the quicksand
Almost sucked to la-la land!
Just so hard to get out
But have turned life about!
Most things are cozy
Though life still not rosy!
Just don't get bit
By the devil's wit!
We splash our thoughts
on invisible walls,
or scratch them in quicksand
and say,
‘look
see what time and
a certain fretfulness
has made me do!’
It is petulant,
It is childish,
sometimes it is poetry.
By a miraculous process
you hope never to understand;
you can now breathe ghosts into life.
You can hammer nails into quicksand.
You are a mystery to yourself
a journey you always wanted to take.
Step into
reason
The quicksand
of mind
The harder
you struggle
The deeper
the slime
The deeper
the slime
The harder
you fight
The sun
further distant
Consumed
— by the night
(Dreamsleep: May, 2024)
splashing thoughts
on moving water
etching words onto quicksand
we declare
look
see what time and
a certain fretfulness
has made us do
it is petulant
it is childish
sometimes it is poetry
My world aching with pain
I try to look for light but all I see is more darkness
I try to escape but it wraps around me like a dark sheet
It drags me under like quicksand
I'm out of light, I'm out energy, I'm out of life.

Pandemonium threatens the land . . .
we woke up and it's not Disneyland.
Congress can't make a plan,
they're just kicking the can
Down the road; we are all on quicksand.
