Flight Off the Paper

Old Chinese paintings
on sanded paper veneers
depicting swift flight
of a thousand long necked cranes
still trapped, just piercing the sky.

The iris burst forth
Elegant lacey splendor
Crowns of every hue

Short is their spring reign
Long necked queens of the garden
Receiving homage

Good Lord Deliver Us

silence resonates
eerie gray glow of night sky
nightjar* prays for moon

*The fiery-necked nightjar has a distinctive call that many have rendered as 'good-lord-deliver-us'.

"lyrical Lyrics In Valentine"

Making lyrical dreams
that beat the sound of love
flowing with each whispered beat
the soul is in movement
the physical heart is in timing
moving the soul
and seducing
the necked Mind

Blush

Blush check
you can see it on my face
 embarrassed, red-necked,
 displaced;

take it back and trim
 the love you erased,
 my open disgrace in,
 the kiss you placed.

No adjectives, Jack Webster's workshop,
just blushing fact.

Whooping Crane

Long necked
with legs like ruby stilts
the crane lifts it wings
to it's side
and dances with little strides
It bobs and hops:
a skipping rope with feathers
then lowers it's wings
to gauge the effect.
Almost like the wind is a critic
It finds a mate.

"pee-Pee Lyrics In Valentine"

Making secreted dreams
that beat the sound of excreted water
flowing with each enriched elimination
the kidneys are in movement
the physical process is in timing
moving the waste
and expelling
the urination from the necked Urethra

  a long-necked goose pursued
  a stuffed hen, waddling
     through the entrails of

Premium Member A Wrinkled Tale

Three pedal pushers, pushed past,
mom, daughter, grand
icons of fashions.
Forms formed by the dictates of passion.
Hair cropped, brows plucked,
rural New England’s answer to
Dolly Parton.
Scooped necked and corseted
varying little from teen-queen to matriarch;
only the wrinkles told the tale.

On two feet adorned with five inches of pointed toes

Fatima oozes elegant seduction from crown to her base

Necked with gold jewels she strides along ankle braced

Proud back leaning forward her hips lead to reshaped bosom

When stylish stilletos falter she falls flat on her delicate face

A Silent Morning

The colors
of a sea, a distant sail
on its edge.

A pearly flush.
The coast of an elegant
cloud, the stretch

of a snowy
egret. The glide of a black-
necked swan. Dusk.

The butter
hues that baste the terrace,
in late afternoon:

the graceful
sunlight that lifts the diamond
wings, of Spring.

Watching

A long necked goose flies over Cyprus,
Then slowly disappears before us,
A sword now comes, straight and true,
It too vanishes into the blue
Mountains form and tumble down,
Faces appear to make us laugh or frown,
We lie here on this warm and balmy day,
Watching clouds form and drift away.

Premium Member We Live In a Birdhouse

My husband and I live in a birdhouse the woman said.
I was amused when I met her scrawny necked husband.
He was built like an ostrich with a rear that stuck out.
And long skinny legs, that reminded me of most birds.
I wish he did not wear those striped socks, she said.
I thought their birdhouse was more than appropriate now.

Brontoleesaurus

I'm a long-necked Brontoleesaurus
Sometimes called great Apatosaurus
I only eat twigs and leaves
Another large salad, please?
And a steak for my friend, Segisaurus

tall brontosaurus
a museum favorite

Keeping warm in winter

If you knitted a scarf
For a long necked giraffe
How long would the scarf need to be
If you wrapped it around
Would it reach to the ground
Or only get down to his knee

Should the pattern be bold
Could it keep out the cold
Would it make him look chic and have style
If he wore it outside
He would wear it with pride
Along with his ear to ear smile

Premium Member Necked Truth

A giraffe once told me a funny story of his life; Shared to me - his longest neck is less joy more of a strife. Despite his grand and unique posture standing slim and tall, He absolutely doesn’t feel superior above all, As by the time the funny joke reaches his perky ears, He’s missed again the outburst of his jungle buddies’ cheers. About Gourds

They look like little pumpkins,
Cute and orange, with a stem,
Or else like tiny long-necked squash;
The stores sell lots of them.

They serve as decorations
As they brighten homes for fall,
A counterpart to jack-o-lanterns,
Faceless, though, and small.

However, I do wonder
Why they’ve gotten so maligned
For when someone’s out of someone’s gourd,
It means he’s lost his mind!

Premium Member The Old Bridge

The narrow old bridge
A short-cut to town
To and fro traffics
Have to take turns
No pushing and rushing
But patience and tolerance
On this bottle-necked old bridge
People stopped to greet
Even to strangers they meet
But a friendly smile is lost
Since the old bridge is rebuilt
For cars to speed
For traffic to be fluent
For oldies' hearts to be separated
To be dragged further apart

God and Man

Man rejects God,
God loves man.
Man is not worthy of God,
God is generous to man.
Man is stiff necked to God,
God is patient with man.
Man does not trust God,
God supplies the needs of man.
Man forgets God,
God remembers man.
Man blames God,
God forgives man.
Man sins before God,
God died for the sins of man.
Man searches for God,
God waits for man.
Man needs God,
God is here for man.

cold and indifferent
relentless autumn rain
garnet ruby topaz
brawny clingy leaves
dangling from lean branches
holding on for dear life
waving so gently one moment
then wild in a raging ballet
stiff-necked and trembling
amidst gale winds
determined to never give up
its feat of beauty over strength
mystifying cycle of nature

Frozen drifts of snow will soon melt upon the high bluff
Ending Winter's hold, in time for warmer days of reprieve
Blooming will be a tulip, sprouted from a dormant bulb
Ring-Necked Doves will happily coo with joyous fervor
Unbound we'll be from the fear of catching the dreaded flu
Anxious for temperate weather to green lawns and flora
Relinquishing its seasonal right as a month of chilly weather
Yielding, February will step aside, for Spring is on its way

Oh Giraffe

Long necked babe and able,
A slippery tongue creature fable,
She enjoyed when being fed,
And does not distinguish blue from red,
Just swallows, eats, and licks the hand,
Like a closer buddy friend,
If you have food in a bag and hand,
They all come in sequence bow and bend,
To grasp their share,
They like to freely borrow but not to lend,
A closer look at them,
And when they get what they want in the end,
They disappear without fear,
How selfish of them my friend!

Pheasant In a Poppy Field

The ring-necked pheasant
captured in flight
on a coffee cup
never gets anywhere.

So it is with us.

Continually
the question -- the peaceful
insanity of elevator music.

Which poppy field
are we off to? Will we
shatter wings
or soar like Icarus II, sensing
wind and astonishment;
licking sun-cracked lips
till feathered shadows
paint sidewalks --
moreling the faint pink morning
while the hunter
cups us in gnarled hands
whispering
             we are good.
