Living
to have seen flocks of
starlings in murmuration
is to have lived a full life
-
it’s as simple as
a child plucking a rose
from a blooming garden bed...

Murmuration
Unseen for a moment
Then over the hill
A sudden flurry of wings
Murmuration of starlings
In flight.

Expect Only This
We read of so and so and her sad ending,
wince perhaps, as if time had just run out.
of its burning house.

Sadness is an acknowledgement.
that we knew all along
that the world would swallow
every face we ever looked upon.

Most eulogies
are a murmuration of dying words,
half-truths told to the rushing crowd.
and the headlong years....

Premium Member Until Never
I thought I had forgotten you…until

I heard your voice in song,
the murmuration of starlings, from the church pew.
I saw your eyes,
crystalline brightness in the moon off the sea.
I heard your laugh,
in soft summer sensations of trembling wind chime.
I saw your hair,
in spider’s softest web, a strand of sterling silver.

I thought I had forgotten you…never....

a coat of stars
on a shiny night you
wear
and thrive in #'s (almost)
everywhere
Mozart taught you to sing
everything
recite poetry
and greet those
who stumbled in
you are precious
to me
yet so hated
they patent your name
for poison
and rage
Starlicide
now
half of what you were
your murmurations
still
smoke the sky
just not here
this year
my dear
my darling

A Big Word Learned Late In Life
I learned a murmuration is
a flock of starlings whirling and
turning in the sky, changing

directions in a second,
flying back again, blackening
the sky in long sweeps until

for reasons man doesn’t know
the birds separate and fly away.
A different murmuration now

gathers on the sand and sends
dedicated men to new locations.
Berlin and Paris understand.

A Great Commotion
The ambience was changing
At the fading of the light.
I could feel a cool embrace,
The coming of the night.

In the sky, a great commotion
Countless starlings did I see
A swirling murmuration
In perfect symmetry.

Fluid moving patterns
Writ wide across the sky,
Oh, but the joy of it
To watch these starlings fly.

An ever changing tapestry,
It was ballet in the air.
A wonder to behold
I could but stand, and stare....

Ode To Woe
Ode To Woe Fate is such a fickle thing Cares not one whit for man Hopes but stones in Nature’s sling To shatter best laid plan A swirling murmuration of Starlings Makes as much sense as fate And powerless are the greatest kings In Kismet’s capricious wake I tried to love with all my might But Fate and Kismet said “Never!” My soul has flown into the night And my heart is broken …forever…

Wabi-sabi
Shattered I, in countless pieces,
Abandoned in the wake of that which me befell.
Dust settles, and I retrieve the debris of who I was,
Not knowing yet what I will become.
Broken me…but can be mended
	Fragments mine, in time, reshaping,
Finding form and beauty in the chaos –
A murmuration of those shards that were, are, and will be me.
Of destruction myself reborn,
Ever to be fractured and remade,
	Never static nor complete…
For even in death, I will be changed.
