Court's Adjourned

His wry epitaphs
    gave us many laughs

  Now Milt has returned
    heaven's court, adjourned

Milt requested a four-line verse,
Four lines only, what a curse.
I don't know what to do,
As you can see, Milt, I already wrote two

Love always finds away
When a cycle to understand,
Now together forever
For Milt, his journey over
a gift so lovely returned.

Metrical Units

if meter refers to a poem’s beat ~
why are iambs, spondees, and trochees feet?

See Nile

I’m no doc, but it seems to me
If you’re having trouble with pee
Between hard to piss
And finding you miss
It’s best to be able to see

Tears Shed

Rico, Connie, Milt
    their passing gives us pause

We are all of us subject
    to universal, immutable laws

  Prayers are read
    tears shed

  Our lives here more sober
    when colleagues' are over

A Kind Poet Milt

Milton's goodness was a beacon shining bright
His humanity steered him to what he deemed right
With a soul kind and pure
His words will endure
Through a bright blessed day or a long-troubled night

A Celebration of Blessings

A family feast
to celebrate life's blessings
Humbly, we give thanks
for shared laughter among friends
grateful for continued health.

Opus Eternum

He sat quietly to inscribe his winning piece.
No one knew it was his last.
But his memory lives forever
in the hearts of those he touched.

Compote Compost

When archeologists dig up the bones, it's not likely that any of them moans, "Forgive me if I have you mis-gendered." Apple trees are by their fruit remembered.

Straight From My Heart

I have just had a look to see
What interesting comments
Rico and Milt have left for me
I am upset and sad to say
Both of these fine poets
Have passed away.
I miss these two accomplished men,
Who will never write to me again?
I feel an urgent need to say
I feel honoured that you came my way,
RIP

Rendered

Reproduction is oocyting.
With beingness what it is.
From eggs we all develop
as does everything that lives.

500 cardinal gambles tendered
for congress milt to meet, before
fecund moons by periods ended.

From family we are decended
but from eggs we all are rendered

(inspired by “We all are eggs” by poet BLT)

For L Milton Hankins Eyes Only: Oh Go On Then

Dear Milt,

I said I would...

                         *

The eager young man was a loner
Too timid to ask out Ramona
That outrageous flirt
Hitched up her short skirt
He’s now got an enormous, er, um... AHA!.. Desire to phone her???

                         *

What do you reckon? Poet Laureate? Knighthood? Fame? Fortune?
Hmmm... who organises those stars in the sidewalk?

No Count Monty: the Sequel

(continuation of Milt Hankin's Montgomery La Verve ) Seems that Monty hung off to the right, and he held to that curve a bit tight with gusto and verve to tingle the nerves, but there’s no happy endings tonight. The police report didn’t seem right; It said that 'e missed indy light? He was so overjoyed, his airbags deployed; the wreckage was powdery, white.

R I P

I didn't get to know You, Milt, I now regret Postponing reading soup's delights with "not just yet". Drowned in a busy whirlpool, lost in mundane maze, Wish I followed Your work that set PS ablaze. Wish I engraved Your graceful gifts in my mind - Your poignant, subtle, warm-hearted take on mankind. I'll read Your poems as a consolation prize, To envision the world - You cherished - through Your eyes. January 1, 2023

The Spy Who Ate Me

A termite’s a guy who just loves the woods It gnaws him because he’s just not understood His nightmares, a version of Sentricon hell You love oak and cherry, why can’t he as well? A villain who’s bred by your dereliction Spy him out early, ‘cuz he’s no pulp fiction He wants you to upgrade, pack up and move on He’s Jaws and he’s Spectre ‘gainst your Termite Bond

L Milton Hankins

Milt would comment on my poems
and make me feel real nice
He was friendly as one could be
and there was never any price

He ran poetry contests that were hard
and made you use your brain
He loved poetrysoup
and the soupers all the same

But now he's up in heaven
where he's probably writing too
He's penning awesome poetry
for his wife there too

I wish I could be as wonderful
as this man was
he was an idol and a role model
that gave out lots of love

Escape Velocity

It's out in plain sight, cultivated in fields; our science has made it increasingly strong. Morality, stigma no longer are shields; it's held in esteem by our youth in their song. There's simply no way to predict what this yields. The precipice looms large; we're racing, headlong. Pursuing oblivion, seeking the high. Societal enigma: no one asks why...

Milton Creek Weeps

Milton Creek Weeps
There's a kind of hush over Milton Creek All residents are in shock and they weep For gambler Milt who's no longer around The kindest ever to have graced the town. To honour Milt the Creek has been renamed Look down from heaven Milt 'cause you're proclaimed For friendships made and poetic art Milton Creek's courteous bard of our hearts. Milt Gently may you sleep in heavenly peace. *+*+* 6th January 2023
