Black trimmed orange winging,

                                        float alighting on milkweed.

                                        A hushed waltz on blooms....

Milkweed
The capsule burst open
  Fuzzy floss spills out
Soft white parachutes
  for small seeds that yearn
     to float away like dreams

Milkweed Wonder Pod
I picked a ripened pod
And split open at its seam,
Hundreds of seeds attached to
Fluffy tufts of hair.

I blew gently and sent a
myriad silken little
parachutes into the air
across the meadow!

Premium Member If I Had a Gun
If I had a gun
It would be pink and magical
It would shoot milkweed pods at sad people
They would land softly traveling down their shoulders
Exuding warmth, faith, hope and love
These pods would eliminate all sad feelings
Replacing them with feelings of joy
It would enhance world peace
If I had a gun...

Of Butterflies
Butterfly wings a-flutter upon the current of life Carried to fields of milkweed feasts Colors blending amongst the flowers Beauty dies to metamorphous (Truth endures the time) Cocoon-wrapped fragility Births forth the new generation The cycle of hope remains intact And I stand in awe of such mystery

Milkweed and Hydrangeas
The garden you planted is regrowing,
Just like you said it would—
But the desolate husks of last summer’s foliage
Still stand stark;
Everlasting monuments
Of what once was.

Yet time marches on,
And amongst untouched relics of a time long gone,
Milkweed and hydrangeas
Once again revere—
Flourish
In the warm light of life....

The field is full of pods
Ready to let the seeds fly
Milkweed, bursting with life
Waiting to spread growth
Like 100 plants of inspiration
Showing positive change
New beginnings and hope
This is what nature can teach
In so many glorious ways
The ongoing lessons of our lives
Taught by everything around us

Guilty
I don’t come very often anymore
to the edge of this rancid waste dump
     to pick at the scars
     and bleed anew . . .

To stand and welcome it all
in its abscessed pustule
     as plump as summer milkweed
     ready to be lanced.

I hold the images in my heart
and await the rolling thunder
     to bring blessed relief
     with loosed blood and infection.

My penance....

Premium Member She Springs
Silently she arrived
on rain bowed streams, in shamrock eyes.
She filled the ponds and fluffed the blossom
stuffed milkweed pods with puffs of cotton.
She nudged chorus frogs from emerald dreams
gifting rubied songs to the forever-greens.
She rouged away the last snow flake
brushing pastel hues into robin eggs.
Then she humbly drifted far away
into the gilded heart of Etain....

what are light green milkweed seeds called?
hairy balls!
There are three old women at the table.
One spits out her dentures.
We cannot stop laughing.
I am not kidding, one tells us.
I work at an arboretum. Look it up.
We do and we cannot stop laughing.
The guy in the booth behind the other two turns and glares at me.
I am laughing so hard now, I am crying.
They have no idea, and they keep it going and going and going....

The sun shines through the golden leaves
Warmth has filled this November day
A trickle of color still weaves
Where pieces of Autumn do stay

Lingering beauty, a sweet scent
Gifting the mind not forgotten
Left behind where the time is spent
Soft as the milkweed, like cotton

All of this, in quality time
Capturing magic in a scene
Spreading in a glimmer of rhyme
Where golden leaves are serene

Like milkweed seeds
they fly—
to map the
blue-washed sky,
these three adults who see
things differently
than me.
They're out
in the wide world,
their thoughts and dreams
unfurled—
like banners that proclaim
the world won't be
the same.
And in each face I see
just ripples there
of me.
But I know I've done right
to loose in windy flight
three seeds to bloom upon
this earth when I
am gone.

* with love to my son and two daughters who have left the nest!...

Valentines Day 2015
Valentine’s Day 2015

if i were the breeze
i would rustle autumn leaves
round your quickened
feet
and tumble milkweed angels
up and down your street
if i were the weather
i would mist your mornings
with countless rainbows
and light the way
where you and the world
often meet
if i were your lover
i would exalt you
like no other
mix the bitter
with sweet
into a batter complete
with lemon/lime
ginger
and a kiss firmly planted
upon the softness
of your cheek....

today

i will float
through the hours
like milkweed fluff
borne aloft by warmth
from a summer breeze.

I awoke, still wearing
the gossamer mantle of dreams
bestowed by what ever
high being creates night
and the living there.

my feet will barely
touch the ground;
as my mind yearns
ever higher to return
somewhere above.

I cannot thrive here
on this unforgiving earth.
soon I will disappear into
the dream forever.
until then I will float....
