For the Birds
A rather randy mallard duck
Was causing all the hens to cluck
Around about dawn
Along came a swan
With a bigger bang for the buck...

Down By the Lake
Down by the lake
my old haunts ache
Lonely are they
as I used to be
No mallard ducks
to swim on the sea
Just one autumn leaf
to recall you and me...

Stormy Black Chick
Stormy black chick with the green green eyes
You are always in a bad mood, no kind of surprise.
We watch your chest get angry as you heave and rise.
Running away from you as fast as the mallard flies....

Ode To Mr Mallard
Mr. Mallard Duck with your beautiful green head.
You are shiny and awesome, and beautiful, and pretty well fed.
I wonder if your mate, all brown and muted and plain
Gets jealous of your colors? How could she refrain?...

In the Carvery
I sauce a capon
but chine a salmon
I spoil the hen
but truss the chicken
I lift the swan
but disember the heron
I side a haddock
yet disfigure a peacock
A mallard I unbrace
but a coney I unlace
Olde English terms
Now lost without trace...

What the Female Reindeer Said When She Walked Out of the Woods
I once, went hunting...for mallard ducks
I got skunked, said- "boy, this really sucks"
I over heard a reindeer
Say to herself- "I do swear"
It's the last time, I do that...for two Bucks

Mallard Ducks of Clear Creek
Water runs so,
swiftly as three
mallards enjoy
their swim.
Eating so well,
of insects,
they find so
delicate.
Trying their
hardest to swim
up stream to
reach new adventures,
until finally they
fly away to
another shore,
where they gather,
once more.

Mallard On the Lake
Mallard duck on the lake,
green on your neck,
such a fine one you
are Mr. drake.
With all of these geese
on the lake, you do stand out,
many people treat you mean,
so many times they do tease.
Such a beautiful one you are,
bells are ringing,
so must leave now and
go back to my car.

Up from the creek
Dawn breaks.
All nature wakes,
and up from the creek
waddles three little drakes..
A momma mallard hesitates,
time abates.
Six guarded peeps cautiously await.
Scratch grains form yellow rains.
They some how manage to sustain.
Pecked at, swallowed with a gurgle,
greedily devouring every kernel,
until only the dust remains.....

Shut the Duck Up
Old Pattie just cannot stop talking
Voice grates like a mallard duck squawking
Can't you just be quiet ?
For once you should try it
Her hen pecked husband left walking!
Written after we went out tonight - this woman would not shut up and in the end her hubby just walked out of the room

Mallard Duck Pond Sitter
Mama mallard
Shaped like a well-sailored ship
From Columbus' voyage
With a flipped up tweakable tail
Enjoying motherhood
Followed by five ducklings,
Quacking and cavorting
Livening up pond
Feathers shining,
Proud beak,
Sharp black eyes,
missing nothing.
Helping ducklings
Gain confidence they will need
to raise their own ducklings....

Mallard Duck In a Hurry
Watching a lovely
mallard chasing another
friend, never seen a duck
pedal their little legs so fast.
As he leaves a jet stream
behind him so clear on the
water, which is not clean
all over the pond on this day.
Their both out of my site
now, hope they had a fine
visit and it was worth
the speed he gave so well.

Gawking At the Mallard Duck Guru
He is a guru the other ducks said
Sitting there in silence like stop sign red.
Are you sure he’s okay? I think he looks dead.
Shhh! They told the brown goose named Old Fred.
Why are his fingers put into circles like that?
We are unsure said a dog, a mouse and a cat.
Animals were coming all over to take a big peek.
The guru mallard finally gave up and left Bogger’s Creek....

Cats and Rat and Coconut
Cats and rat and coconut.
Dancing off each stomach gut.
I would join them undercut.
They might flitter, fuss and frut.
Inner door not firmly shut?
Glad I am not in their rut.
Cats live dancing in the strut.
Rat ran off and showed his butt.
Coconut hides in the grass hut.
Likeable butt-in-sky mallard mutt.
Runs to me with a tut, tut, tut.
Cats and rat and coconut.
Delight me with their loud putt-putt....

Descending Mallard Ducks
Descending Mallard Ducks
Soaring white, black grey and brown
landing on the greenery grounds picking
beaks injecting insects
walking closely together feathering
Peck, peck, pecking insects to digest
Peck, peck, pecking driving like a man on a mission
lounging on the autumn brown and green grounds
Soaring white, black grey and brown

Our Mallard Story
They rarely need a home I begged
So we built our new mallards a little duck pond
In October, we added a little duck house, up the hill, for protection.
Then of course, a dog bed, which they liked.
We were installing a little heater in Mid-November
but they flew away
Not to worry my neighbor told us. “They will be back in the spring.”
Maybe by then we will not have to install an air conditioning unit in the duck house....

Just Ducky
When sex was as common as muck
The Mallard took over as "Duck"
Not much for playing
The hens were laying
Because one and all loved its pluck*
* Like American police,
Anas platyrhynchos drakes mate
- repeatedly - with anything they
can get in a neckhold - and eagerly
join in gangbangs, leaving no doubt
that Chinese women had neither
voice nor choice in the selection of
the duck as a symbol of happiness!"...
