Dawn breaks.
All nature wakes,
and up from the creek
waddles three little drakes..
A momma mallard hesitates,
time abates.
Six guarded peeps cautiously await.
Scratch grains form yellow rains.
They some how manage to sustain.
Pecked at, swallowed with a gurgle,
greedily devouring every kernel,
until only the dust remains.....

Helping ducklings 
Gain confidence they will need
to raise their own ducklings....

Watching a lovely
mallard chasing another
friend, never seen a duck
pedal their little legs so fast.

As he leaves a jet stream
behind him so clear on the
water, which is not clean
all over the pond on this day.

now, hope they had a fine
visit and it was worth

He is a guru the other ducks said
Sitting there in silence like stop sign red.
Are you sure he’s okay? I think he looks dead.
Shhh! They told the brown goose named Old Fred.

Why are his fingers put into circles like that?
We are unsure said a dog, a mouse and a cat.
Animals were coming all over to take a big peek.
The guru mallard finally gave up and left Bogger’s Creek....

I would join them undercut.
They might flitter, fuss and frut.
Inner door not firmly shut?
Glad I am not in their rut.
Cats live dancing in the strut.
Rat ran off and showed his butt.

They rarely need a home I begged
So we built our new mallards a little duck pond
In October, we added a little duck house, up the hill, for protection.
Then of course, a dog bed, which they liked.

We were installing a little heater in Mid-November
but they flew away
Not to worry my neighbor told us. “They will be back in the spring.”
Maybe by then we will not have to install an air conditioning unit in the duck house....
