Premium Member A Boon Companion

No matter the place I go
I'm always glad I showed up
Concrete jungle to meadow
Assembly to solitude
My eager muse is happy
to tag and dance right along
A poet's boon companion

Environments Verse

Can a word be just a tree?
Is a forest any form of poetry?
Where the soil adds imagery of style,
Rains make the flow of each line.
Light the feeling that reader reacts too.
Warmth of summer the deep rich stanzas,
Winters frigid ways the ending of strength.

Premium Member Pops Barbecue Grill

Each morning just before lunch at eleven, I can see the black smoke rise. Pops has his large grill fired up. Chicken and ribs sizzle over the flame. Just come here to satisfy your hunger. Pops is not skimpy on his sauce. The man is the boss for cooking.

Premium Member Surprise Dinner

Asked for fresh trout from the menu
Server brought it hot to my plate
Pronto take it away, to my horror
Two vile beady eyes stare at me
And they do not look very pleased
Should have stuck to pasta or soup
Neither would dare to glare back

Premium Member Fall of a Lion

Great lion who once ruled the land, you are a serf to your lord. Gone is your kingdom where you reigned. You now serve new masters these days. You fell from your once proud throne. Your home is now humble and plain. Among those who serve, you’re not alone.

Premium Member 'kisses of the Rain'

After a night of rain, the sun, its shimmer, a welcome like no other. A new day starts with such promise, an array of flora across the pasture a gazelle leaping all over the place. The kisses of the rain still visible a delight for my eyes to behold.

Kwansaba

I see a girl in the mirror
A thing of beauty unseen by all
She weaves poetry, and cooks sublime notions
Paints the sky green, the land blue
Twirls on cliffs, tiptoes along its edges
Drama, risks, thrills, that is her life
A thing of beauty unsung by all.

Premium Member Sushi

There are all kinds of raw fish that can be used to make sushi. Orange salmon is quite popular these days. Try mahi mahi or yellow fin tuna. Mackerel, and caviar both red and black Shrimp and surimi are still in demand. Please don't give me any sea urchin.

Humanimal

Tackled by a stutter murmur of Deus.
The praying ended and packed as threats.
Err, umm, uhh, were cliched by vomits.
Grasped all the needs and rusty flirts.
Prune back Sheoak! The cutest green pine.
Pity Sheoak no more green crown again.
Where are Quechua and Sherpa? They go.

Moon Girl

Your arm is Soft like sponge pillow,

Heavy is the head that rests on;

Soft but strong, made me embrace loner.

Serene voice is all you got, deary!

Your oxygen the fairy has breathe, gem!

This being none have seen; pretty shorty.

How I wish this was not...pseudo.

Vitals

Doctor blinks, breath caught, face goes still.
“Oh,” he says, voice sharp, split.
Hands tremble near charts, numbers all wrong.
Room spins quiet, cold like a grave.
Chest tightens, heartbeat thuds, loud, slow.
How long have I lived this broken?
Sick laughs die. Fear lives in bone.

Irresistable Kool

Irresistable kool
(a Kwansaba for Eugene B. Redmond)
by ‘bro.zayid’

For him Miles is not god
Just irresistible kool
Yet he claims ancient ears
Sips Dunham’s golden legged dance
From Dumas’ Ra thick gourd
Ejaculating ink first
Our regal splendid swag…

Premium Member Haunted House On Top of the Hill

Haunted house on top of the hill Scares many kids that sure walk by Ghouls and ghosts make their display known Deep inside this hold there’s all sorts They moan and groan and carry on Loud enough so many others may hear They bring life of misery to all
Russell Sivey

Real Life

Laughter, fun, joy for all the world! Not just holiday time, forever and ever! When kids can play, mum, dad too! From fear, much-needed respite, all happy! Two weeks of opulent, tender loving care! Back home, fear faced again, real life! Family can look back, all fun, snapped!

I Dare You To Praise Him

Never really know what part of Sunday’s
sermon my mind’s eye will lock hold
What portion of the Holy Story will
ignite passion as Pastor’s lucid homoly unfolds
“I DARE YOU TO PRAISE HIM CHURCH!”
and Good Lawd did that church explode
and I sat at the red light -Exposed.

Easter On the Cape Flats

On Good Friday after church we eat
curried pickled fish and hot crossed buns
and drink black coffee because we share
in the painful agony of the Lord.
On Easter Sunday after church we braai *
meat and drink like fish and rejoice
in the victory over death and grave.

* (rhymes with "bye" ) - barbeque / barbecue

Is There Any Peace

Weeping willow growing outside my office door
blows in the wind like angel wings.
Each wing unfurls as though taking flight
to some haven where there is peace.
And with this peace comes perfect rest.
The kind of rest given by God
as His gentle breeze blows this tree

Identity

At the silted banks of river Nile,
I'd sung to the glory of Lucy;
I'd soared high over the echoing Savanna
and fought and bled for Shaka Zulu.
I was first to push back abyss,
the last to be ripped away. I'll
return one day, I'll bring the rest.

Premium Member Nightfall Wonder

Up so high all the fireflies fly
Look at them! Look at them all!
Thousands of stars hang in the sky!
Birds and crickets are chirping in unison
under the lunar eclipse in this night.
The wonder of nightfall captivates me as
I walk in solitude; the night so alive!

Premium Member The Deer Shake Off the Headlights

The deer shake off the headlights

We sat in the car outside the
liquor store peering like deer, our eyes
following Pinky as she went in to
the store for a twelve pack of beer.
Our breathing stops. She's carded. Shucks.
Fake card works. Yes! Pinky time. She
sashays back, with beer and condoms, smiling.

Premium Member Divine Mission

To exalt the Lord in obeying Him
Is my divine mission as His servant…
Sharing His Gospel* that rescues the lost
From sin’s wages in hell’s fire-torment
That they will receive gift of life
Eternal, assured by His pure, precious Word,
By their faith in the Saviour Jesus.

*Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth.
