The pole-vault is the upcoming event,

But no high bar is seen in the sky.

Desert flowers drench the roadside
Route 12 gone at high tide. 
Heard they busted another one,
Fly high. 
Barrel smoking like it’s on fire. 
Moonshine.
Illuminate the lifeless fields. 
Cherry wine. 
Dripping from the cactus leaves. 
Dripping from the jagged teeth
Coyote thirsty from the heat. 

Rubber tires melting,
seeping through the cracked ground.
Crickets singing,
They’re drowning in the sound.

The raven is too hyperactive at my window pane.
Hear how noisy its wings are; was napping, now knocking knees.
Was about to turn over, with restrictions of the homebound,
As the shadows fly off tight walls, this cot, my face.
I am bothered; I am covered in ebonic feathers.
My eyes tick-tock, they’re grave, and my blue hands they are warmed by ice;
And the cuckoo visits ev’ry half hour as my flesh morphs pale green.

Waiting behind the closed doors
My dearest smiles at me
My tired soul lights up again
I hold my doll with glee


‘Dolls’ for kids’, teases this world
My Doll cries or laughs with me
With it, can I ever get old


Mind filled with guilt as
I keep My Doll homebound
My Doll never complains or cribs
For me, my Doll is always around


Friends or kin come and go
Down in the dumps, I find solace
