familiar words not quite understood
I stayed all summer just because I could

Our grandson who is three is quick to pick up on concepts,
The latest concept he has mastered,
Is that of volume as a concept,
Addition and subtraction are also nearly mastered.

I bought out the chocolate biscuits and said he could only have one,
I also took one,
He was way ahead of me in taking his first bite,
After which seeing my biscuit was still a whole one,
He very politely asked,
Can we swap granddad....

He needs help, called us on a whim.
He was her Granddad, name was Jim.

Asked us to bring his girl.

We had found her at the crash scene.
A worse sight there had never been.
Both parents gone, life is so mean.

Our minds were in a whirl.

Her only kin, he was in Scome.
Six hours to drive her to his home.
Many extra miles we did roam.

We watched the map unfurl....

He was born in 1888 and he died in 1981.
His name was Frank and I'm his great grandson.
When I was a little boy, I remember him giving some change to me.
He was a great man who almost lived to be ninety-three.

I wanted him to live to be a hundred,when I was a kid.
If anybody deserved to make it to a hundred, he sure did.
When he died, he had a forty something wife.
He had a long and happy life....

My granddad would always say with pride
But you need not live in anxiety and fear
With God in the driver’s seat and in your hand a beer
So don’t you worry when you reach a narrow bend
There is always a hand waiting to lend
There will be sweet memories that will make you smile
And some people who would make you throw up bile
