Edith Piaf was a sparrow
Who ignored the "straight and narrow"
No pure white dove
She sang for love
Just as wild as Cupid's arrow...

Edith Lived Here
Edith Lived here

Black & white photo
A house where
Edith Piaf lived
Casting a long shadow
On a summer street.
Blank windows
The house is unpainted
As always
Edith has gone
Her voice lives on
She had no regrets....

Archie Bunker
A good ol' boy,
Opinionated and moody,
He tended to be broody.

Edith Bunker
Was Archie's wife.
With a cheerful outlook she fought his strife.
The one bright spot in Archie's life.

Archie Bunker made Edith a saint
His attitude made most people faint
His words often cruel
He acted like a fool
But She still loved him with no complaints

Eight Nuns Running
Eight Nuns Running

Eight nuns running down a path far below
Ethel, Edith, Ellen, Barb each in deep snow
From the way they all look might be putting
up a gong show, till they all fall down
while they're all wearing frilly long gowns.

Nobody sat in Archie Bunker's chair

From which he bloviated with a flair!

He drove Meat Head up the wall,

         With unmitigated gall!

Hapless Edith umpired to clear the air!

Left To Weather
Raping the sky of its luster,
a new darkness began to imbue

Draining the ocean—taking its salt,
a pillar for Edith renewed

Shearing the top off the mountain,
its crater to hemorrhage and bleed

Stealing the promise from every hope
all faith left to weather—unfreed

(Villanova Pennsylvania: April, 2020)...

Deep In the Basement
Deep in the basement of the east wing
Lady Penelope keeps a Thing
    With big teeth and claws
    And horrible jaws
And feeds it her husband’s old flings.

While sister Edith keeps under covers
A creature that crawls and gibbers and mutters,
    That’s disgusting and spiny,
    Appalling and slimy,
And feeds it her old boyfriends and lovers....

Premium Member Short Verse On Stupidity
Short Verse On Stupidity By: Tom 3/17/2020 “Stupidity won’t kill you but it can make you sweat,” stupid things in our past are unchangeable of course. Looking hinder at our lives oft bring thoughts of regret, over rueful matters hiding there we've no recourse. “I am patient with stupidity, but not with those who are proud of it.” Edith Sitwell

Anticatholic, racist, sarcastic twisted sense of humor
Edith his submissive wife never anger or ranter

Naive wife about life and a chatty wonder

Loves her husband all the same

Bridges
BRIDGES

There are those problematically structured:
Garth Brooks had burning bridges “one by one”,
London’s was always falling down, ruptured,
Paul Simon over troubled water would “lay him down”.

But there are also excellent bridges in no peril:
Like those of Madison County
Peopled tenderly by Eastwood Clint and Streep Meryl,
And those in Paris under which the bounty

Of Edith Piaf would make your dreams come true....

The Bunkers
Edith was a saint in every sense of the word.
Things she endured today would be considered absurd.
Edith was a homemaker who stood by her man so near.
She tried to make Archie happy and keep him with a beer.

Archie was an old school, hard working type of man.
He didn't take to change and few people he could stand.
Archie was abrasive as sandpaper, Edith gentle as a dove.
Archie was a bigot that only a naive dingbat could've loved.
