My Dream of Failure
The night feels surreal,
in flight in my dressing gown
Swooping through backyards,
I reach to save them from loss,
but find myself falling down.

Written for the contest 'Tanka me a Dream"

tara jennings...

Cheeky
I spied a stranger when I went to town,
Sipping champagne whilst in his dressing gown.
He looked at me, gave a smile,
I gave one back it's true.
Thank you for the drink he said,
I've just charged this one to you....

Who Is Time?
Time, time, time knocks.

Time, time, time – stops all voices.

Time is against me, and you, –

It runs forward, and loves no one.

«Time cures us». – Who is it? The doctor?

Or, in a white dressing gown, the executioner?...

Nightscapes Part 2
At twenty past I'm home at last,
the brass plate spells my name;
come inside!
familiar and gratifying,
slippers by my bed still lying,
dressing gown and cap are crying,
here abide!
The sheets are turned and ready.
I leave the night and take a final bow,

grateful for the here and now....

I love the way she smells after a shower
so fragrant fresh and clean
and how she sits there
so beautiful
in her dressing gown
brushing her long wet hair
until it dry's and gleams.

Her sweet perfume fills the room
and sets my heart on fire
heightening my senses
and filling me with desire.

A Cup of Tea
Exactly the right colour,
The perfect amount of milk,
One of Mum`s specials as
We gathered round the table
In the kitchen and put
The pictures together,
As red lights turned and
The friendly doctor asked
What to do with
The dressing gown.

Well it was rather a nice one
Said Mum.

Then it all went quiet.
Too late to go to bed.
Too early to get up....

I

I had an idea
Far to the back of my mind
It wasn’t clear
A glint not a shine

I had a thought
Couldn’t pin it down
I had a dream
In my dressing gown

I had a whim
Grabbed at thin air
I can’t swim
Throw me a chair

I hunted gold
Hacked with my pick
I caught a cold
Felt quite sick

I toil all day
Hoping for a break
I earn my pay
For heaven’s sake!

Modern Mony
Alimony,
Palimony,
Dogimony too
Not macaroni,
With acrimony,
Pay me or I'll sue

Send a money heap
So I will keep
The dog that leaped
Before the heat
Of who did cheat
Brought us defeat.

I'll sit around
In my dressing gown
His soft fur brown
When I feel down
He’ll lick to drown
My face's frown

To you who’s horny
This may seem corny
If you’re feeling thorny,
From a sexual tourney
End your scorny
You’re not so brawny!...

I used to shop until I dropped.
Now I have stopped.
I do not need anything,
It's all a lot of rot.
The shops that are still open
As many of them have gone
Sell such a lot of rubbish
I would be ashamed to put it on.
My old frame needs brightening up
With some stylish clothes
Everything is shoddy
Even underwear and hose
I'll keep wearing my best nightie
And my cosy dressing gown.
With bunny slippers on my feet
I have no wish to shop in Town....

Premium Member A Dog And A Frog On A Spoon
a dog and a frog
who stood on a spoon
and went round the town
in their dressing gown

said the dog to the frog
oh lets spoon to the moon
so they jumped up and down
and the spoon left the ground

look look oh look at the moon
how truly exciting said the dog
spoon spoon we went on a spoon
would you believe it said the frog

to the moon to the moon
travelled the dog and the frog
yes they went on a spoon
and thus ends this short epilogue

You wear moonlight like a dressing gown,
And every eye in the house is on you.
You’re in the spotlight, center stage,
But it’s theater enough to watch you sleep.
Take your comfort for as long as you please.
I’m never in a rush to hurry the play.
I’ve got a basket full of breakfast fruit,
And steel-cut oats just as wholesome
As my noblest intentions.
When you waken in the morning
You’ll be able then to take your fill.
Reveille is zero past whenever....

__

the tropical shore

waits birth of brand new morning…

clouds pace heaven’s door
__

one small speck of sun

rises to the occasion…

darkness sleeps soundly
__

glory in the dawn…

skies are feathered brightly with

bird of paradise

__

silhouetted palms

wave windblown fronds in alarm…

sun singes the bay

__

the early morning

wears a lavender halo…

blue mist dressing gown

Oh so nice to see you at this hour Going bed? No, a dressing gown is my evening attire. what's mine is yours to share Of course it's not too much. How much was your taxi fare? I may be a pensioner little money to spend But what's a missed month’s rent to help a friend? I won't be offended if you have to leave I'm sure you have other friends that you must see They will be delighted to see you at this hour Even if they are dressed in their evening attire
