Gazing past the conifers,
To sunset streaked clouds;

Since we last saw each other....

Electrum
electrum
on a lovely night
he rode his golden horse
under moon and starlight dust
through fields of lush forest
conifers, sweet honey and musk
blue jays singing in frenzy
into the first peek of daylight
sprawled, sensually
a silvery dawn
green gold, electrum

Snowy Stream
Amongst barren winter trees
Snow caps on a rippled stream
Conifers sway in the breeze
Images resonate winter dreams

September
Dawn breaks,
the sun awakes-
an eerie mist bedecks
the stark conifers in a light
blue shawl.
out of focus
at the edge of my gaze
bathed in sun
a sepia rose haze
the draught ends
berries rot
beneath the
bramble
sun setting low,
Fall in all its golden glow;
anticyclones
hold transient sway...

Bathed In Sunshine
a fawn frolics free 'cross the meadow
coat aglow, bathed in sunshine
her young buck sleeps apace, never stirring
wrapped in arms of conifers, tall pines
the fawn pauses to sniff the chill forest
sorrow's torment streams toward her heart
shots ring out, dogs bay, crimson sky ~
archers yawn, another fawn's cry...

Craving a Buzz
Smith-Gilbert trails — trellises of Georgia roses, the piney scent of conifers, plentiful perennials, the shady pond with splashing koi, the mulberry bowl, hand in hand — my grandson and I.
amid faerie garden
and bonsai forest —
buzz of coneflowers

Seasons Go Round the Mountains
Mountains come alive;
deer, trout and conifers thrive. . . .
Springtime’s scenic drive.
As ridges grow dry -
climb the verdant trails toward sky. . . .
Hear the eagle’s cry.
Cooler, shorter days -
highland’s gold and crimson blaze. . . .
My nostalgic gaze.
Snow-capped giants loom.
At the peak of winter’s gloom. . . .
I await spring’s bloom

The Growing Trees
The Growing Trees
When I was a younger man,
So many years ago,
I looked out of the window
To see them in a row,
Well established conifers
Growing on the hill,
Level with a tiled roof
Beyond my window sill.
Today I paused reflecting,
Gazing through the glass.
I see the trees grew taller
As those years come and pass.
Their trunks are soaring upwards,
Crowns stark again the sky.
While they shall all continue on
My life is passing by....

Upland
On the upland at the slope,
magnificent water tumbles.
On the talus climber stumbles,
on small, dewy leaves of grass.
To his eyes disclosed is spa,
marvelous mountains, falls and streams,
fabled landscape -
rare appearing frail flora.
Leafed trees and conifers,
crooked wood and little flowers.
Raining often – scary blizzards.
Slanted sidewalks among ranges.
There the weather quickly changes –
swiftly hunting are the buzzards....

Let My Soul Flee
Oh let my soul flee
To the purple mountains
Where poetry breathes—
Where dawn’s shadows
Move silently with the sun.
Let my eyes feast on
Dew drops and Scottish broom
With its golden bloom.
Let the fresh scent of conifers
Satiate and restore my soul
As it soars with the wayward wind
Where verses resplendent
And timeless intertwine
With the glorious divine.

Light Verse
My Morning Drive
Pristine crisp, clean morn
Crescent moon floating above
A monochromatic wintry scene,
Frosty crystals clinging atop
Rolling, sleepy meadows,
Rugged white peaks all round,
Lush conifers – jet black, set against
Soft pastels of blue,
Venous deciduous with bouquets
Of birds leaving their tops
Like petals drifting at will
Upon a lazy, summer stream
Afar, wispy crimson marks the
Direction a lover rests, in wait of
Of a new year and new beginning...
