Anything But Spring
Anything but spring
I've no time for frivolity
and the increase in daylength
constricts my nocturnal emissions.
The snow is almost gone,
white replaced by mud,
and the red bird's cheery call
curdles the cream
in my morning coffee.
Yet as catkins emerge
from budding willows
and the wind softens
inevitably
comes the time
to break from hibernation....

By a Muddy Creek
By a creek I sink my feet
in yesterday’s rain.
A swirl of green water
sucks at my boots.
Water rats swim near
not afraid of my stillness.
A willow tree sheds yellow catkins
they drop like magical caterpillars
wriggling as they learn to swim.
I scratch an itchy nose,
creek, rats and willow dreams
sink away
into nothing much,
just the usual mud....

Spring Is In the Air
A strong spring wind is blowing today
Bringing an artificial snowstorm here my way
As pussi willow fur is dancing everywhere
Being transported on the pre-storm air
A sure sign that Spring is in the air
When certain shrubs grow that cat-like hair
Catkins, buds so furry and white
Announcing the coming of more sunlight
written and posted on 3/1/12 for Francine's contest...

Pussywillows Live In Our Hearts
PUSSY WILLOWS LIVE IN OUR HEARTS
The catkins, silver flamed, light up each branch.
I choose a bunch to brighten up a room,
to celebrate this Dingus Day of Spring.
We gobble gab, with pierogies on hand,
and sip our wine, and beer. We lift, we cheer -
To life! Then bow our heads for those we mourn.

Springing Towards Spring
Are we springing towards Spring as lamb tales adorn the wood
as these catkins catch the twilight Sun as infant snowdrops hide
in the greenery their white lights shy until they are bunches bold?
Are we to have a fast forward Spring that will confuse all creatures
even us as flood warnings are made redundant, or like last year will
Winter will return with delayed vengeance before a quickie Summer?...

Winter Moments
a re-post ispired by Janice's contest
WINTER MOMENTS
Sunlight on the tiles
dusted white—
imprint in the snow
hunger brings a stranger
at night;
the frozen verge
inert below,where
summer awaits;
Aconites gaze
into the sun
'neath dangling catkins;
Long twilight days in winter's shade
bring to-morrow's
snowdrops in the glade;
A whistling wind,
a scatter of rain
sounds of night
on my window pane....

Catkin Willow
Catkins, Catkins peek out your furry head
Upon the branchlet within the meadow
Remember curiosity killed the cat, stone dead
Nature's furry, cocoons upon the willow
Beat the leaf and spring shall come
As soon the tides of green will follow
Flowers show her your highest respect
On the gentle mind in awe of sallow
Catkins, catkins earnestly lead the season in
Please us with the freshest, your purring us affects...

Who Has Ever Survived His Death Since Antiquity
Experiencing trials and hardships along the way,
For four years I’ve witnessed the truce in full play.
The nation’s at stake as the willow catkins in a gale,
My life is the drifting duckweed hit by rain or hail.
The defeat at the Panic Beach panics me constantly;
Passing the Lonely Bay, I feel even more lonely.
Who has ever survived his death since antiquity?
May my brave heart mark the history with loyalty.

Hallows Eve To Candlemas
Hallows Eve to Candlemas,
the sun now turning south,alas;
November sombre,December dark,
January,February cold and stark.
Catkins litter the forest floor,
beeches shed their leaves galore.
Gales melange the mix,as decay brings
nature's bionomics.
Hexagon pointed stars move and shift ,
into a patterned powdered drifts.
Rain filled days of slush and muck,
webs on shards of gossamer
stuck.
Twilight months in winter shade
until the snowdrops matamorphise
in the glade....
