By a Muddy Creek

By a creek I sink my feet in yesterday’s rain. A swirl of green water sucks at my boots. Water rats swim near not afraid of my stillness. A willow tree sheds yellow catkins they drop like magical caterpillars wriggling as they learn to swim. I scratch an itchy nose, creek, rats and willow dreams sink away into nothing much, just the usual mud.
