River and Brook
River & Brook

Once a river asked a little brook
Never did it occur to you to be as big
as the massive sea?
No, replied the little brook
It's better to be small and sweet
rather than big and brackish.

Rabbit Residual
Who did plod through the fresh laid sod
What plunderous rogue could be so treacherous
When did the fresh, bright mane garner brackish stain
Where did the stealthy herbivore dump digested core
Why did that silly hare his gastronomical fare share...

First Light
The pond is brackish
a smear of lichen,
a low haze.

Water birds dabble in their sleep.
Soon the sun
will dash across a drop of dew
to burst dams of light.

Wings will shake off
dwindling shadows,
slap the wet air
until the water awakes....

a bed of stones unloosed to spill from its path
through fresh waters flow to the distant sea
laving pebbles from its silty rough wrath
from rivers fresh to brackish brine's debris
the journey ends where it began its ascendancy
drifting as the impetus of tidal destiny...

Drifting Away
2-24-10

I'm a castaway
On a ship far away
Everyone is gone,
And I'm the only one.

Ever so slightly, the boat drifts on...
Drenched in the brackish sorrow,
I wait for nothing but the morrow

If you care - turn your eyes to the sea
There is all the tears I have shed for thee....

'Tween winter scenes of sparkling ice
      and summer vales abloom
   Interjects late Autumn leaf-less trees
brackish ground, dullish skies of gloom

      passion's yearnings stilled
   Heaven, let your snowflakes fly

Visions of the New World
Sail, oh ship across the seas
Spread all hails and reveries
May your crafted frame drift as waters expand
Not one plank of wood proclaimed on land
Tales of brackish courage shall be told
Excited male minds in search of gold
To the New World soon to be in view
Of land untouched beyond the great old blue

Swallowed the Sun
Swallowed the sun
  in attempts to
       free the fire,
dimly lit universe
   eclipsed 'neath
    inescapable moons,
horizons hued of
  brackish plastic tea's
     apathetic indifference,
  whilst darkly orbiting
      fated solar systems
lost symmetry's balance,
  ultimately, to relinquish their
        vitally sanctioned powers...

A Walk Into Oblivion
I'd hoped the sea remembered me,
accepting me so easily,
as evening peaks and
the moon draws out the tide.

She wrapped me in her icy shift,
eyes closed shut I'm set adrift,
and through the wash
I'm tossed with every stride.

Caught within her brackish flow
my beating heart begins to slow,
Katrina's won,
the pain will now subside....

Wood Walk
Snarled with moss sap
lime green and cocoa
burnt autumn carcass
still stained blood and red
Lake of desire
in silver and mirrors
skimming off thoughts
better left with the dead
Coldness of tree tops
reaching and wrought
lilting bent iron
broke open with breath
Photograph moment
stiff brackish and white
a portrait of every
dream in it's death....

Volatile Supermoon
Swallowed the sun
  in attempts to
       feel the fire,
dimly lit universe
   eclipsed 'neath
      inescapable novas,
horizons were hued of
  brackish tea's
   indifferent sympathy,
whilst solar systems' fate
      lost in darkly orbits
  relinquished their presence,
       as celestial bodies blurred
 indulging supermoon's intense volatility...

Dawn
The pond is brackish
a smear of lichen,
a low shaded haze.

Water birds dabble in their sleep.
Soon the sun
will dash across a drop of dew
bursting dams of light.

Feathers will shake off
dwindling shadows,
wings slap the ponds surface
until the water awakes.

By then
my eyes will shine like silver moons;
I will write a poem
but not this one....

Happy Ending
A happy ending?

A camel and a dog
Tired of performing
Every night
At a circus.
Escaped.
The camel walked
On top of it
Sat the dog
guiding the camel.
They found the valley
Seen on a map
In the window
Of a book shop.
They lived happily
Till the died.
The dog´s tongue
Stung by a bee
Could not swallow.
The camel died too
When the water
In the lake
Got brackish....

Belly Boarding By Tom 9-3-2019 In brackish water, I first learned to swim. It wasn’t by some plan, But merely on a whim. Being a San Diego boy, Surf captured my eye. On the spur of the moment, I gave surfing a try. The girl I was with, Flashed a worried frown. How would I get home If you should drown Showing a lot of concern for my safety huh.

Thunderstorm
Azure panels fade; shed golden mane
Black, celestial portents mail links chain
Windows of heaven shaded darker strain
Foggy panes availing beams do disdain
Billowing, gray folds gilded tapestry doth stain
Burgeoning spouts brackish bile to drain
Reverberating drums strike dolesome refrain
Streaking bolts o'er tumult wax then wane
An eerie whistle howls announcing the careening train...
