It Made Me Smile
City in a fog
Morning’s bleary eyes open
Lone soul witness to
Sixth-floor birds eye view, coffee
Whirring – warm in this moment....

No Free Lunch
Cat under the bird feeder, angry squirrels show their teeth, scamper along high branches. Birds eye the seeds dare not. Nobody eats.

What came to Ted that night,
heaved his hand
and burnt his pages and
gave us sage
and brutal phrases.
enormous, elemental flights
of reality.

Through birds-eye lens....

A Poem By My 9 Year Old Grandson Connor Smith

     As dawn awakens,
     he does not

He is the too early bird.

You hear but do not see,
     the shadowed greatness.

With a birds eye view of life,
     he is the wise owl......

Fly Away
Sail across the blue sky with your wings ,
Kiss the milky cloud before she turns grey.
Let breeze be your companion,
Up above, in your birds eye view,
The panaromic filth of our city resides.
Fly away till your wings are sore
Flyway to your destiny....

The Nest
With beaks wide open,
There they wait.
Maybe mom
Or dad is late.

Here I have a
Birds' eye view.
Watching them
Is what I do.

Suddenly,
The mom alights
To feed her babes
With bird-sized bites.

Or possibly
It was the dad.
In either case,
The chicks were glad.

And so was I
To witness this,
A treat, back home,
That I would miss....

Narrowing Tracks
Grit flies from spinning rubber,
the traffic is edging through roads,
narrowed, by the plowed and pushed aside.

Curb-side snow remains; solid humps turn brown,
in an un-melting light.

A lone chicken hawk circles an iced-over acre
of snaking roadway,

its black track attracts the birds eye,
as if it were the contrail of an elongated rat,
stretching into a bolt- hole of frozen sky....

A Birds Eye View
Sitting on top
of the mountain

Staring at the view
of the city

And thinking
how blessed I am
to have a God
that created the beautiful earth

I’ve got a birds eye view of the world
from my spot perched on a rock
on the mountain top
and its making me reflect
upon life
and upon my faith
as a Christian

I close my eyes
and pray
to my heavenly father

I open my eyes
and blessed is how I feel
to have a birds eye view
of the world
around me...
