We were once madly in love,
Young hearts caught in reckless fire.
Then I told you the dump truck joke—
A laugh, then silence,And slowly, I walked away.

I chased shadows in skirts,
Mistook freedom for fulfillment,
But birthdays came, and so did my wishes—

Flew down south to visit kin;
Two long years is what it’s been.
