Reconnecting With Joy
When I wake in the morn, and greet the day
My plan is to fill it with purpose and play
I lay for a moment, preparing to move
Wait for my bones to get into the groove.
Hope to leave ‘Arthur’ behind in my bed
Pushing the sleeping pill out of my head
With a clear mind, I face reality
As I rise from my bed, face what will be.
I limp to the kitchen, breakfast can wait
A smoothie, with toast on a paper plate
Now that I’m ready, look outside the door
My squirrels are begging, “Please give us more.”
My day begins with a smile on my face
Tucked quietly at home, safe from the rat race
Mine is a simple world, I will agree
But the joy it brings in perfect for me!
