Collum Haiku...

mosquito hums loudly
disturbing night's peaceful long nap....
quiet, thunder rolls

lightning splits sky
rain pours in pitter patters....
ratcha shakes, terrified

Premium Member Danger In The Air

We're under a tornado watch until 1 today
The thunder now rolls, and the clouds are gray

The rat terrier is terrified of what is to come
She can't be comforted which is glum

I wish I could help her overcome her fear
She has a place in my heart very dear

I feel some fear as well because of danger
That could be lurking, so many lives endanger

Some places had flooding from these storms
There has been tornado to form

Dear Lord, help protect us today
Don't let there be loss of life, I pray

Continue to protect animals and property
I enjoy feeling Your presence as fatherly

Amen

Kookaburra chuckles me to sleep in my deep, deep dreams
Knowing he will sound the alarm in morning sunbeams
My rat terrier awakes with a start, dreams gone, new part

We found a female rat terrier/chihuahua mix, six years old. We have her on trial for two weeks to see if she will fit.

Willy, the Rat Terrier

Willy, the Rat Terrier

He nibbles on my nose.
Why? Heaven only knows!
Each tooth feels like a pin.
I need much thicker skin!
Yet Willy, the rat terrier,
could not be any merrier.
After a bath or stroll
he sprints around the whole
apartment like a race
car driven by an ace
who’d swallowed too much speed.
(Perhaps it’s just his breed
that is to blame for that.)
He’s like a mad preschooler
who drank from the wine cooler
and got so hugely gassed,
runs so awful fast,
is such an acrobat,
a poor rat would have no shot
at evading such a tot.
I wouldn’t like to be
that rat, believe you me!
He’d shake it side to side
until the critter died,
which would be just as quick
as death by a dropped brick.
Even a swift hare
wouldn’t have a prayer!
Yet the only life this brat
has so far ever seized
was neither hare nor rat,
but the schnoz from which I’ve sneezed.

rat terrier cleans
cat's dirty ears licking them...

The cat and dog got in my lap..
The Rat Terrier licked the cat's
ears until they were dripping wet
but very clean..

Premium Member Work On

A tricolored Rat Terrier
Is me, set apart, unique
Sporty, distinctive, serious
A breed that is antique

Bred to have high intelligence
Strong sense of smell, hunter
That sniffs out rats, chipmonks, squirrels
My owner's assister

I stand at a tree and show him
Where a squirrel has gone
Or stand at wall showing owner
Rat that he needs work on

Premium Member The Blating Fawn

Where is that blating?
Looking all around
Trying to find the source

It sounds like a kid crying for its dam
Nowhere in sight is the evidence of the sound
Turn and look once more

From the direction of the babbling creek
Down where the Paper Birch stands
Skirted in native Bamboo

Where the coolness is so inviting
To a weary soul
Come sit, relax, enjoy the ions that refresh

The sound gets much louder there__
Then in the exact spot looking
There comes Rocky carrying a fawn

The fawn with his polished cleft small ebony hooves
Attached to his very long abnormal looking legs
Legs that are swinging back and forth for Rocky had him in the nape of his neck

This dappled child of the doe
Calling for its mother to come
To this day I can still hear his cry! BaMa.......

(OUr Rat Terrier who is fourteen years old
was diagnosed with an enlarged heart yesterday..
The vet say is treatable and he should live several
years..Just a memory of when he was young.)

Premium Member Trip To the Creek

Going on the mule
To that special place
On the creek enjoying
The cool water negative
Ions that refresh one's
Soul, restoration of
Spirit for it had been
A week since time to restore

Rocky running, playing
Off and on the mule
Disappears, wonder
Where that dogs gone
Probably off finding
Really stinky bone
Bleat, bleat, bleat
What is that sound

Is it a goat or sheep
Where is the world
Would that be coming
From, there are not
Any of those animals
Around here, at least
There has not been
In years and years

Rocky comes into
View with something
Hugh in his mouth
It is being swung
Back and forth
Back and forth
Long legs, very long legs
Why it is a baby deer

He is so proud of his catch
How does one explain
To a rat terrier that
Deer does not fit
Into the catagory
Of small farm prey
That is on the list
Of animals that he kills

Premium Member Rocky the Rat Terrier

Rocky sporting stance
