But you passed away anyway, it's sad and it's true.
I paid thirteen hundred dollars with my credit card.
When it came to facing your death, it sure was hard.
When it came to saving your life, I certainly tried.

The Little Thunder

I saw a streak of living flame,
with no regard for rule or name;
It tumbled through the morning grass,
as if the sun had come to pass.

Its paws struck earth in tiny drums,
like thunder where the daylight hums;
The wind bent low to kiss its ear,
the sky leaned down to watch it near.

It charged at leaves, then spun

The little child who cries,
brushing sleep from startled eyes,
might not have awakened from her dreams
to fill the night with plaintive screams
if not for love.

The little collie pup
who tore the sofa up
and pleads here in a mournful crouch,
might not have ripped apart the couch
if not for love.

sitting with my sweet puppy

sweet puppy is lying next to me in my recliner
we are sharing a pillow
I use it to hold my I-pad
he plunked his head on a large corner of it
He is like a baby furnace
I stroke his soft hair as he sleeps
Both of us content in front of a droning TV showing nothing important

Stop Feeding your Puppy People Food

stop feeding your puppy people food, the vet said.
My husband and I are both worthy liars; we agree.
Neither of us planning to keeping to this promise.

Our puppy loves people food.
Today I sneaked him pepper jack cheese, eggs, tomatoes and corn chips.
I saw my husband throw him salami, bacon and ham.

What Makes Me Smile

Smiles from me to you, 
making you happy not blue.
Friendship we can praise, 
as we enjoy sunny days.

My puppy is tan and small, 
she likes to sleep in mommy's shawl. 
She loves to play with her ball, 
while I play with my doll. 
We like to play outside, 
where she will run and hide.

Lily Bug the Mighty Pug

Lily bug the mighty pug,
All 13 months and 15 pounds of,
Just goes to show the unbridled 
Power of nature
Supremely confident
Maniacally enthusiastic
Without a clue of her limits
And adorably cute. 

But perhaps most importantly is a hint
Of the joy and love
That resides in the heart 
Of Life, all life, 
Large and

raising a puppy

Car on the road
My puppy gives chase
Truck on the road
He is gone
People on the road
He either walks them home or they walk him back
He is especially fond of two pretty teenage girls

Happiness Is

If you want to be happy
get a pet
a puppy a guppy
or better yet
a cockatoo a kangaroo
but if you do
just keep in mind
someone must pick up
what they leave behind
such happiness is not free
it comes with a touch
of responsibility
so here's the news
be wary of which one
you decide to choose

What Makes Me Smile

Seeing the beauty of the morning sunrise,
then seeing the colorful sunset at the end of my day.

Making someone laugh when I go shopping,
seeing their face go from dull to lighting up.

Nothing is better than a new puppy,
all soft and furry with a kiss from a tiny tongue.

A child's face in wonder,
giving them a double ice

Puppy laying 
Head on knee,
I will take 
Good care of thee.

Laying there 
Soft and warm,
Always loving
Since you were born.

When I had to go
Away to war,
I could tell 
You knew the score.

When I fight
You're on my mind, 
Wishing you'd be here
All the time.

You were first,
At the door,
When notice came,
I died at war.

Can We Have a Puppy

Mommy, can we have a puppy?
We can name her Haley...
No! I hate the way they smell...
But Mommy, we can wash him daily.
I also hate it when they yell.

But Mommy, we can play with her,
and show her exciting tricks.
No! What about when she gets sick?
We'll take her to the vet,
and we'll sit with her all night.

He barks at the intruder
Chases it down the driveway
The creature floats up
Wind carries it swiftly away
Another leaf flies by
Puppy gives chase
No one can keep up with this guy’s pace
He is as excited as he can be
About anything that floats down from that tree

My puppy is eating my bushes
One twig at a time
Bushes I have babied for ten years
They suddenly have a new purpose
When he is bothering them
He is not chewing on me
