Step on me today
You'll see me tomorrow,
Still loving myself
A trait you can borrow
The bumblebees know me
And so do the birds,
Butterflies aren't flustered
By silly, silly words
With sticks and stones
Piled 'neath my feet,
Along with the manure
I grow in the heat
I've got the sunshine
And I've got the rain,
The worms in my garden
The windchimes' refrain
I've got many friends
Who are one in the same,
So, call me a pansy
What's in a name?

When winter's rain and windchill reigns
I plant some pansies to cheer
Then cold winds howl, trees do tremble
But in this spot, gold appears
These pansies, delicate and fair
Bloom yellow with delight
Their soft petals bold and smooth
Such a lovely sight
The rain dances, and wind howls
The pansies bend and twirl
As if both are here forever
A graceful waltz, in winter whirl

I still remember clear as day
My Mama’s purple pansies sittin’ on the porch
I was just a little boy
And I thought those purple pansies were as pretty as anything I’d ever seen.
I still remember clear as day
The boys at church and school yellin’ that at the back of my head
I never understood it
Why a pretty little flower was supposed to make me feel bad
I still remember clear as day
When Mama said for me to never come back
I left those purple pansies
Back on the sunny front porch in Missouri
I still think about it every day
What’s become of those little purple pansies
But I know what’s become of this one
He still stands tall, and he still blooms

love and remembrance
in various vibrant hues . . .
as springtime ensues
symbols of free thought
pansies gaily brighten yards. . .
cute faces in hoods

Yellow and purple pansies bravely persist
Despite the frosty chill and impending cold
These delicate little blossoms in a pot insist
Yellow and purple pansies bravely persist
They outlast other dying plants and resist
Such charm they exhibit, still flowering bold
Yellow and purple pansies bravely persist,
Despite the frosty chill and impending cold.

humble pansies shine brightly
showy against grey winter sky
floppy faces nod cheerfully
holding heavy heads up high
velvet petals gently flutter
in a purple-white-blue whole
a rainbow hued celebration
thirst quenching for the soul

Poetry is a mystic, sensuous mathematics of fire
smokestacks, waffles, pansies, people,
and purple sunsets.

PURPLE PANSIES
A pensive-pansy bouquet,
vibrant diffusion of lot,
Borscht belt, Catskill-sunshine core,
platonic petals of thought.
Purple pansies are childhood,
of God’s wide-eyed creation,
innocence in royal cloak,
a roused imagination.
Deft purpleness recollects,
not grandma’s frilly feast days -
a sixty’s mod Easter dress,
painted nails of royal praise.
Fresh fairyland apogee
o’er green-sea, circular bowl.
Petal’s shades of light and dark -
a poet’s purple, vibrant soul.

Oh, so many flowers blooming
In this tidy little church yard,
Well groomed and weeded, dancing in
These warm summer breezes blowing.
Everywhere I look are flowers
Roses, Pansies, Daises, Tulips,
Growing over those departed
Who, like me admired their beauty.
Well kept, these grounds and flowers too,
Tall Maples growing here and there,
As is this old white painted church
With so many flowers blooming.

Seeds
Planted
Then nurtured
See how they’ve grown
Into pretty pansies for my garden
How I love to see their smiling faces
In lovely shades
Of purple
Pink and
Red
They
Brighten
My borders
Bringing colour
Especially on wet dreary dull days

Pansies and Deer
No matter what I planted and suppose
There will be a place where a weed grows
And then all of my lawn as I look over
All I seem to be seeing is a bunch of clover.
In my poems, I really hate to sound mean
Clover can be dark or maybe bright green
And of course also yet it is so very true
Weeds end up with ends yellow or bright blue.
Now by bugs and moles lawn is being infested
And almost whole lawn has become digested
When I look again some patches I saw
That are brown looking like some straw.
Had a great idea which was olden and golden
Several pansy plants from out front have stolen
They would eventually throw away and discard
So I planted them all around my whole yard.
Threw Epsom salts down when I did groom
And all of my fine flowers beautifully bloom
And am sure you know I can hardly wait
To see what each deer, doe and mate just ate.

My life is but a basket of pansies.
Of posies and ribbons of memories,
a place to hang my coat and keep
my thoughts close to heart.
A life enriched by friends and love.
A blessing from the heavens' above,
my life is shaded in the colors of
fanciful pansies.
Dressed in the richness of posies and love,
my heart is a garden tender and full of
all the richness of heaven above.
Friendship is the greatest gift of all.
