Our sweet mother went to heaven one Spring day.
Four years ago, the flowers folded their wings.
Hymns, ethereal in the fog; smile at bay.
Left at table, in closet, on shelves - her things.
Most dearly departed, her ticket one-way.
And my father cheers her urn each day.
She’s in our hearts, our thoughts are off and flying.

As we gather to honor our mothers

I know you love your mother but
when she gives you these ultimatums
and her ultimatums start to trump my requests
we may have a bit of a problem.
I do not want you to go against your mother.
I want you to explain to her why you sometimes
have to choose me.
Not all the time
but at least on my birthday.
You are the hero of this family.
You have to step up and choose me today.
To show our children how it is done.
So they will understand and respect
that life is about leaving Mommy and Daddy
and choosing your fate.
Teach your mother.
Teach our children.
Teach me.
Choose me.

I see the lilacs and think of you,
it's always been that way.
Memories come flooding back
of many a Mother's Day,
There was no extra money
for special gifts for you
but just outside I'd always find
the perfect gift, I knew.
I'd heap my arms with lilacs
and you'd always make a fuss
arranging them in a crystal vase.
A special memory of us.
Years later when my girls came along
those trees were still right there
and on Mother's Day, as in the past,
their beautiful bounty they'd share.

She's tall she's short
She's heavy lean
She's young and old
And in between
On this day we celebrate
If just a babe or ninety-eight
The one who is our mother dear
In our hearts she's always near
Whether here or in our thoughts
One thing we know is very clear
Mom is the reason for this day
And is the reason we are here
In our minds are memories
If she's gone or here to be
The pictures are forever there
Always alive for us to see
She is the one
Who gave us birth
The World's named for her
Mother Earth
E-ven though she's been gone lo these many years,
D-id I tell her I loved her enough as I fight back the tears.
I-often think I'm the most blessed of men upon this earth,
T-hat God in His wisdom chose her to give me birth!
H-ow I cherish the many happy memories we did share,
M-ost of all her beautiful smile and crown of silvery hair!
A-nd I know that God placed upon her head a star-studded crown.
E-xemplary was she as she served her family with great renown!
