Notes About The Poem

silencio

When I’m not tapped into a music stream.

I like quiet
no - let’s be exact,
I like silence
ear plugs in - deafening quiet
or better yet, noise cancelled anti-sound
That’s relatively new technology
My mom mentioned new studies suggest it may rewire things
gray matter wise, you know, behind the eyes
like the patterns sound forms in sand.

But if you’re going to scramble my mind
your going to have to wait in line behind
bland 21-year-old issues like:
sleep deprivation
hormonal fluctuations
romantic fog
case study competitions
business model design games (REALGAME)
deductive logic puzzles
irritability and mood swings
mental bandwidth anxiety
cognitive confusion
information overload
assignment stress
premenstrual syndrome
compulsive coping mechanisms
career anxiety
sexual frustration
multitasking shifts (schedule)
canon events (existential dilemmas)
culture shock (new environment)
feeling “scrambled”
family pressures

So, yeah. let’s fn Jettison headphone worries - MOM - shall we??!

<3 . Geeze! You got quite a list there. You win that contest! . . . Being half deaf, I’m usually wearing hearing aids. They provide the benefit of hearing speech, almost correctly. I enjoy turning them all the way down when I’m not engaged in my usual conversations of upmost importance. I don’t achieve silence :-( . It’s like the muffled far away sound you hear underwater. I prefer it to the ambient noise in the air around me, and the noise emanating from many people’s mouths.

Was it the head-bangin' years - the decades of following the Black Sabbath tour around the county? I listen to so much music that I'll probably be half deaf someday too. My first concert in 2016, was Justin Bieber, I was 13 and our seats were right up front next to these HUGE speakers - it was painful, luckily after the first ear-ripping song, Charles pulled out earplugs for everyone. Now I keep earplugs in my purse. What's that commercial - don't go anywhere without 'em? =]
