Marks of a survivor

Each scar has a name, etched into my skin—
White lines barely visible on my pale arms.
There’s one for every heartbreak I ever got,
One for each battle I silently fought,
One for all the wrongdoings I had,
For every time my thoughts turned bad.

Each scar holds a memory, a ghost from the past,
Every cut done silently, hidden away

X-Marks-the-Spot

X-Marks-the-Spot is a tickling game
Which is traced upon someone’s bare back.
In childhood, we played it and often it caused
A goose-bump filled giggling attack.

My kids got the treatment when bathtime arrived
And my grandson when he was a tot,
But it’s been a while since I’ve gotten the chance
To engage in some X-Marks-the-Spot.

The treasures that I have kept in my heart.
Love is one of those.
Love is a beautiful yet painful feeling in the world.

It abandons those who trusted,
And devastates those who loved unconditionally.
It leaves scars that never heal,
And ashes that once were those who loved.

Some cats mark their territory with claw marks
Shredding your couch, putting gashes in your vinyl seats.
Other cats leave strong urine in their zone,
a warning to others to “keep out!”
My own cat uses her spray paints and paints murals
Some call it graffiti, I call it "aggressively territorial”.

Footsteps

"Show me your marks, my dear.", he asked his son,
Having not even passed his subjects one.
"Dad, I got zero in math

Haunting me around like a group of sharks
A 2 or 3-digit number
that my parents think will decide whether I'll become a doctor or a plumber
For me my marks are decent
But for my parents, they are horrifying and unpleasant
My marks will decide whether my house will be a flower bed
or a coffin made for

The marks.
So deep, but not lethal.
So fresh, but barely bloody.
So painful, but feels oh so good.
The sting, so bad but so calming,
it actually makes me happy.
Just three small lines.
Not much, but enough.
Not messy, but so apparent.
The little, but horrible sting.
It's numbing.
It makes the voices quiet.
As long as there's pain,
the shouting is silent.
