Marathon of Memories

The morning fog low over the empty streets,
soft as a whispered promise.
My shoes slapped the pavement in steady rhythm--
each step a heartbeat counting the miles.
I had yet to run—and those I’d left behind.

Streetlamps stretched shadows across brick walls.
Long, crooked shapes that seemed to shiver.
A dog barked somewhere—
sharp, sudden—
and I remembered even echoes can run far.

I run the miles deep within,
a subdued race, an unspoken intent,
devoid of spectators-- no finish line,
just breath and heart, both entwined.

The shades lengthen along my path
but still a soft dawn finds its way turning into gray.

It's easy to find those who'll sprint,
To the end, with a heroic gleam,
But to run the long race,
With a steady, patient pace,
Is a rarer and more noble dream.

In the marathon of life, we run with grit,
    In the sprint of moments, we dash with grace.
    In the relay of generations, we pass the baton.
Our legs pump like pistons, hearts our engines,
Our breath is the fuel that fires our journey.

We run through valleys of shadow and doubt,

Why do these girls run, why? tell me
Why are they running the marathon?
All deserve a gold medal, all of them
I have tears in my eyes when I see them.

Training for a marathon, where does someone begin to start
Time to begin six months of intense training, a course I need to chart
Discipline and willpower I must rely on to get the job done
Hard work I am not afraid of it, in fact, I will welcome the challenge and try to make it fun

     in Israel, it’s a sprint
   Two nights @ four cups of wine in the USA
     One night, four cups, in the Holy Land, recover in a day

Marathon Running Days

Those tanned, shapely legs of mine,
where have you gone?
No longer have I the ability to run!

Nor feel the glorious, salt water spray,
from my beloved, San Francisco Bay!
That kissed my sweating, dawn face.

Those foggy morns, the busy hands of
time have erased.
Some other body now, in its place?
This ghost of a runner,soulfully does state.

Who took away my

Marathon Man

Running, running, running faster
Trying to stave off disaster
To keep from losing in this race
It's time that I picked up the pace

Breathing, breathing, breathing harder
Hope I don't end up a martyr
My lungs are burning, legs are weak
The finish line is all I seek

Cramping, cramping, cramping woes
I'm losing feeling in my toes
I know it's not a mortal

European Sauna Marathon

The European Sauna Marathon does take place
during the coldest winter afternoons in each year
in Otepää in southern Estonia with no fear;
That place called the "winter capital" race takes place there.

People from around the world gather to cheer
for the marathon during the middle of the winter season;

Yes, they told her
they will induce our
baby.It was the high
blood pressure,
it seems

I skipped out 
of work early
at twelve. The
maternity unit was
just up the road.

She sat on a table,
legs swinging over the
edge. ‘That’s it,
no more after
