Midnight Lullaby
by Michael R. Burch
I.
A measureless rhythm rules the night—
few have heard it,
but I have shared it,
and its secret is mine.
To put it into words
is as to extract the sweetness from honey
and must be done as gently
as a butterfly cleans its wings.
But when it is captured, it is gone again;
its usefulness is only
that it lulls to sleep.
II.
So sleep, my love, to the cadence of night,
to the moans of the moonlit hills'
bass chorus of frogs, while the deep valleys fill
with the nightjar’s shrill, cryptic trills.
But I will not sleep this night, nor any …
how can I—when my dreams
are always of your perfect face
ringed by soft whorls of fretted lace,
framed by your tear-drenched pillowcase?
"Midnight Lullaby" has been set to music by the award-winning New Zealand composer David Hamilton.

With A Gentle Hand

With a gentle hand,
You balance the world while its feet are still untried…
little fingers twist like seashells
around the promise of tomorrow.
Love is gentle in this place;
it hides within a cradle song,
a steady thrum of trust
leaning into your heart.
Every touch becomes a promise
each embrace a refuge -
showing the fragile ones
that gentleness carries power.
When the lullabies grow silent
your hand remains
carrying tomorrow gently
like sunrise opening the sky.
Focus and
hit it
when the image
is sharp
and
not blurry.
Is she
an object,
or a person
who you wish
not a dish....
of a dream
that's tasty...
She's funny and charismatic
she leaves you rising
about the spectacles
of the run of messages
Bleeding,
her involuntariness
she entourages
energizes
inside.......
She's death
because you chose,
lust over the red
of blooming
she's been there....
and still,
you beat the drums
and not the piano,
she rules over gentle
and your storms raging,
she's given plenty
of opportunities,
a pillow sleeping
The gentle is shelved
of the wish and the hows
and the black is in denial
of the thunderstorms,
a bed here for one's blinds
as he 's fantasizing
can only be harmless
hard to sleep at night
until the daylight bleeds
in all of wishes created
outside of your destiny
The garden you neglected
refuses says bees and roses....
You’re gentle, judgemental,
A freak in sheep’s disguise
Yet in some ways you’re burdened by self sacrifice,
You’re obsessive, compulsive,
Afraid to let me go
You’re afraid of what’s left of you,
If you have not my hand to hold
You know I love you,
But it’s time to move on
Take a fall, and crash out, if I’m wrong
Be scared, I’ll hold you,
If again our paths may intertwine,
Someday you’ll see me smile,
But now is not your time
So I guess we have little left to say,
But happy hurt day,
Let’s eat our heart ache
We’ll bake ‘till we can’t feel
Lind’s eat your cupcake,
Made out of mistakes
Let’s wrap up what’s concealed
‘Cause it’s your birthday,
But not anymore
Since you chose the hurt held door
So happy hurt day,
Look, I baked you cupcakes
Blow out your candles,
Close the door
Day is done and night now comes;
flowers fade and birds sleep.
Hear the wolf, he sings a love song;
through the darkness deep.
Hear the shadows weave their lullaby;
weave a soft melody.
As you dream, they sing their gentle song;
sing for you and for me.
As the day fades, and night begins;
let your dreams arise.
Watch as the starlight dances along
through the midnight skies.
Hear a howl at the silver moon begin;
hear them cry so mournfully.
As you dream, you'll hear them gently sing;
sing for you and for me.
I'm sorry
I know you may have never been told that
But you deserve it
And so if nobody is gonna tell you that
I will
You deserve it
In a world that has told us to be strong
And has held us to impossibly high standards
I wanted you to know that you matter
And you deserved better
From the world
From your own
I'm here to let every black boy and every black girl know
You can let go
You dont always have to be a superhero
You dont always have to put on a show
Let your exterior crumble
Let those tears flow
All that pain, hurt and hate
Just know that what you feel or felt
Know it was never your fault
It was the system
And all of those who never listened
Who failed you
They failed you
Okay it's not your fault
I'm sorry they blamed you for being a victim
You dont have to struggle
With the weight of your problems
No more
This is my home
And your my guest
Give me the weight you carry on your chest
Come in and just rest
Sleep, its okay
Even if its all day
Never feel guilty
For how you choose to heal
And always remember
I love you
Today I’m grateful for lullabies.
Those love songs our parents sang to us
each night before we slowly closed our eyes….
Those same lullabies that even now
when a new days about to start
still play softly in our ears
and soothe our waking heart
Laughter echoes, a sweet, bright sound,
Opening hearts where joy is found.
Luminous moments, a cherished array,
Years of kindness, brightening the day.
Blossoming beauty, a spirit so free,
Embraced by love, eternally.
Treasured memories, a heartfelt scene,
Happiness flows, for this birthday queen.

(Birthday of Lolybeth Baloy Tolentino)
If I could, I would fetch you the moon on a spoon..
Dipped in the shimmer of midnight’s lagoon.
I'd cradle the stars in the palm of my hand..
And scatter their light like the soft golden sand.
I’d weave you a robe from the breath of a star..
Threaded with echoes of realms from afar.
A crown made of fireflies, twinkling and bright..
To dance on your brow like a spellbound delight.
I’d summon the winds from the mystical deep..
To sing you soft lullabies while you sleep.
For magic is boundless, and love is its tune..
If I could, I would fetch you the moon on a spoon.
LYRIC
Floating Like A Feather
[]
All these thoughts circling so I calmed my nerves and walked up to see
Have you found any time
to spend with me
I'v grown so much
I've found a need
it's always been you
It's always been me
My loving fortress of dreams
Come be redeemed
Let's spend eternity together
In a sea of belief
Where waters run free
and the sweet breeze blows
A nightingale of love
In your starlit pose
Let's wander the hills
And run through the brook
And dip our foot in love
And write a love struck book
My loving fortress of dreams
Come be redeemed
Let's spend eternity together
In a sea of belief
[]
Floating like a feather
Floating like a feather
Floating like a feather
Floating like a feather
Sweet, sweet eyes,
Soft, soft smile,
So sleep, sleep,
Child sleep awhile.
Let light be the shade,
O’er your delicate eyes.
Let worry now fade,
And the future be your prize.
Rest easy now child,
Our Father does watch us,
Weep not, dear child,
For he will save us.
Let love be the guide,
That lights your troubled way,
You need not hide,
From His cheering sun rays.
We lambs are loved,
Forever & Forever.
So live & live my belov’d,
And weep & weep never.
Listen and hear his voice,
He cries for thee,
He smiles with thee,
He loves thee.
And so let Heaven and Earth rejoice!
For the child is forever free!
And so, my child, 'tis time,
To end our mind play,
As we hear the chime,
And listen, as forever I say:
I love you.
Sweet, sweet eyes,
Soft, soft smile,
So sleep, sleep,
Child sleep awhile.
Hush now, my little one, close your eyes
And drift off to sleep, under starry skies
Let your dreams take you to faraway lands
Where the sun always shines, and the sea is like glass
The flowers are blooming, the birds always sing
The fairies are dancing on gossamer wings
The world is so magic in this fairyland place
And you can be anything, what a wonderful space
So close your eyes tightly, as I sing you to sleep
I'll watch over you, my little one, my sweet
In this lullaby dreamland of love and of light
My darling child, everything will be alright
Hush now, my little one, let your troubles fade away
As you drift off to sleep in this enchanted bay
Just remember that I'm here for you, always by your side
As we journey together through the night, in our dreams we'll abide
So rest now, my little one, in peaceful slumber deep
For tomorrow's another day full of wonder and sleep
I’m a saddest man on earth
Though I didn’t mean to be
But the only thing I worth
Is your empathetic fee
If you didn’t care to pay
You don’t have a coin
Maybe next time you will say
Hi, my beggar boy
Don’t you look so down and sad
Let us drink some wine
Well I hope you understand
I didn’t have much time
I feel better, how are you?
You look rather pale..
I will answer yes, I do
And I’m feeling frail
I spent countless days alone
Sleepy all the time
You were out for so long
Couldn’t send a line
Let us say good night my love
I know you don’t dream
But I dreamed more than enough
It’s the same old stream
You just fall and there you flow
Down the wind ahead
And it blows about your home
Brings me to your land..
In twilight's tender clasp, my dearest one,
The world softens to a hush, night's begun.
With every star that winks above,
We find our anthem in the night, a song of love.
Lullaby, oh tender lullaby,
In your arms, my heart will never lie,
With every beat, our bond made strong,
In the quiet night, where we belong.
Whispered dreams of shared morrows blend,
With the rhythm of your breathing in.
In each inhale, a promise to keep,
Under the moon's vigilant sweep.
Lullaby, oh hallowed lullaby,
Through the darkness, our dreams will not die,
With hope's quiet pulse, we bravely march on,
In the hush of the night, our love is reborn.
The night's breeze carries your cherished name,
A symphony of affection, ever the same,
Cling to these moments, let them impart,
In every lullaby, we're never apart.
Lullaby, oh eternal lullaby,
In your embrace, I'll forever vie,
With hope as our anchor, steady and strong,
In the still of the night, where we'll always belong.
Now surrender to the night's gentle call,
Know that I'm here, your steadfast wall,
In this lullaby, our souls take flight,
Bound in love, till the rise of the dawn's light.
The open country fills the sky
The forests stretch before my eye
Breezes soar, on which I fly
Oh love, oh love, the lullaby!
Stars refulgent grace my sight
They chart the heavens through the night
The world as one unites - unites!
Oh love, oh love, the lullaby!
Sounds serene impress my ear
The katydids, the peepers hear
An audible, the planet cries
Oh love, oh love, the lullaby!
