The black-as-widow’s-weeds night of endless stars
was so cold...
cruel as temperature
plunged its frigid fingers feeling through my being
fondling my heart and soul without mercy
molesting me - taunting my will to live
and just when I thought
the ice water in my shivering veins would kill me
there she was
she came shyly at first
demurely spreading
her pinkening skirts over the horizon
while her blushing complexion
deftly gelded the darkness
I prayed-I pleaded-I made deals
(with who? you don’t want to know..)
that her warming smile would be my saving grace…
It began to slowly dawn on me
as she flexed her sinewy heat waves
flaunting her solar power
that I was caught
between false hope and no deliverance
for the desert sunrise-to-sunset
now faced-off and challenged me
with barren bone-dry intensity
sucking dry the new dew
and any life
containing moisture
weathered granular remains
of ancient feldspar and quartz
with eons of sifting and shifting boredom
took on a hell-raising life of their own
as the fire-breathing celestial sorceress casted spells
of smoke and mirror mirages
and magically made ridges of rippling blond sands
glisten like scales of a million skimming sidewinders
writhing in joy at my agony—
it’s amazing
how cold I feel when I have been so burned
again I face a desolate night
— deserted —
without a blanket

Widow’s Weeds: For women of 19th century England, a custom of mourning that involved wearing heavy, concealing, black clothing and the use of heavy veils of black crepe. The entire ensemble was colloquially known as ‘widow’s weeds’.
Mourning - Wikipedia
I pray for my last thoughts to prevail with triumphant bliss, vanquishing regret angst; and verily abounding with thanksgiving for the following:
GOD-ALPHA AND OMEGA of my life: Without* YOU, I’m nothing
since You’re my all-sufficiency and my everything.
Dad: you’re my greatest human fortress, steadfast indeed
the Almighty I praise for your legacy, thriving with blest breed.
Mom: truly the virtuous woman who molded my personhood
you exemplified essence of love and wisdom in your motherhood.
Siblings: Manong Rhud, Ading Bert, and Sis. Ming, “kapatids” so dear
how fortunate am I to be assured of your presence so near.
Relatives: cousins, aunts, uncles within and outside clan’s group chat-brace
Christ’s blessings be with you, reached-out by His redemption grace.
Mentors, teachers, leaders: your earnestness of life-building impact
keeps me fulfilling influential educator-role by faith-propelled act.
Friends: Actual and virtual, online and on-site ... you're appreciated
midst your warm partnership for which I'm gratefully elated.
Brethren and sisters in the Lord: let’s fulfill His will, exalting His name
serving as light and salt by His empowerment, advancing heavenly aim.
Orphanage family: with the Saviour’s compassion and provisions that abound
you’re my home where His grace is maximized till we hear trumpet's sound.
All the Poets in their desire to express their hearts out with passionate zeal
inspiration you are to me by the impact of your dedication-seal.
With such last thoughts reigning along worshipful spirit, surmounting gloom of worthlessness' attacks, I yield to the Sovereign Whom I trust
while ministering by His guidance.
*John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

Ode in couplet form
The twenty-somethings watch the clock.
They bide their time till it strikes five.
The work day's done. It's time to rock,
and suddenly they come alive.
They rush away into the night
to meet their friends and have some fun.
The world is theirs. The stars are bright.
Their nightly party has begun.
The sixty-somethings bide their time.
They're worn out and the clock seems slow.
The thought of rest is so sublime,
and home's the place they long to go.
Their nightly party is a meal,
a little TV, bath, and rest.
That warm, soft bed holds great appeal,
and early bedtime is the best.
The young and wild, the old and tame--
they all pursue one basic goal.
Although their lifestyles aren't the same,
each wants to let the good times roll!

"The Holy Scriptures are our letters from home."
Quote - by St. Augustine
My absolute truth, being and breath is God's truth,
chiseled in my heart and soul since my youth.
I believe in the Holy Bible's sacred text,
admitting some revelations perplex.
One must read the scriptures, then probe and question them,
and devour every divine crumb.
When I read the Scriptures my soul is total peace,
with a spiritual inner release.
The words have transcendent, ethereal spirit,
that I experience with each visit.
I feel strength in the bones of the holy parchment,
jewel stepping stones to enlightenment.
Some of the passages etched in stone in my mind,
without- my life would be lifeless and blind.
I inherited Bibles . . . my grandma's and mom's,
with old marked pages to meaningful psalms.
The oldest is grandma's passed down and down and down,
I caress those pages now turning brown.

I cannot say how poems come to be-
from just one thought to full reality.
I cannot say how I hunt down my words
to image themes like nature, flowers, birds.
Or then select a form to fit the theme;
be it free verse, haiku, or rhyming scheme.
Or count the syllables for metered flow;
select the feet of two or more to show
a rhythm, smooth or anapestic dance
to make the words behave or wildly prance.
Or think I'm done, but then see that I'm not;
to then rewrite and add what I forgot.
From just one thought to full reality-
I cannot say how poems come to be.

Preterition is a poetic technique: drawing attention to
something by claiming to omit it, but then really defining it
by actually saying what you claim you cannot say.
Form: Couplet / Iambic Pentameter
Sitting on the cusp of dusk and evening
Placidly he ruminates where life has been
When she still believed in vibrant springs
And exulted dawning of purple mornings
Echoing exuberance of seasons’ calling
Fragile, yet colorful, as autumnal leaves
Delicate, aesthetic, as snowflakes falling--
Until she chose to surrender her dreams.
Oh! how fervently she cherished streams
Zigzagging ebulliently on their property
Digging lanes through prairies dark green,
Giggling, rushing, curving, on life-journey,
Pointing zealously, how to redirect destiny
Hosting daydreams of daffodils, milkweeds,
And tranquil bliss edifying lotus sanctuary.
Pity, neither did he feel her zestful appeal,
Nor could he allay those spaces left empty--
Between life as it is, and life that could be--
Saddled by incongruence defying harmony.
Lonesome he wailed tracing her footprints:
Cheered birds singing, doted stars twinkling,
Breathed-in her air scented with jasmines,
Buzzed in moth-passions of nocturnal winds,
Gazed deep woods where moon was rising,
And found her there, but not her meaning.
Yet, she came by, reminiscing through time,
Staying long enough, scanning the night skies--
But much as she tried, the Venus didn’t smile,
Alas! when she left, that was final goodbye.

"Quote: True beauty is a ray that springs from the sacred depths of the soul, and illuminates the body, just as life springs from the kernel of a stone and gives colour and scent to a flower. By Rumi"
***************
The springtime voice moves daintily in the air,
A silver sigh like dawnlight through the trees,
That wakes earth from winter's silent prayer.
It lures the buds with dazzling, perplexed breeze,
A mystic murmur, attractive as a rhyme,
that wanders down the meadows, talking to the bees.
Each seed now stirs, as though it recalls time—
a sleeping spark beneath the melting loam,
standing like hope in some forgotten clime
The hills grow warm; wandering winds bring home
The flocks of petals, gentle as falling snow,
Their hues light up every meadow and dome.
O Spirit Spring, whose translucent streams glow,
restore the earth—let every heartbeat grow.
Our Destiny
Life’s choices come to us by divine plan or fate,
With both options shaping our destiny’s date.
How we each proceed defines who we are
As we seek life beyond living in this Bell Jar.
To find this rare azimuth requires so much care,
And make not your choice on a whim or a dare.
One’s destiny is a complicated proposition,
Which sometimes calls for divine supplication.
If the Almighty wanted to make easy our life’s path,
Then he would’ve laid out a way in our life past.
For it’s within His divine power in Heaven above,
That we all may fly beyond the sky so blue above!
God inspires us to master our true destiny every day,
So we can ascend to Him in Heaven on our final day!

HEART THAT MAKES AND KEEPS COVENANT BEFORE THE LORD
Our heart makes and keeps covenant before the Lord against temptation
Surely, He is our hiding place from sin-inquisition…
He considers us along our trouble and vexation
Therefore, we trust in Him and His assured salvation.
Our heart makes and keeps covenant before the Lord against wickedness
Surely, He is our holy shield from filthiness…
He pardons us of our confessed sinfulness and worldliness
Therefore, we seek Him and His cleansing forgiveness.
Our heart makes and keeps covenant before the Lord against backsliding
Surely, He is our prevailing armor from offending…
He guards us as well as our mind-choosing and faith-deciding
Therefore, we rely in Him and His wise guiding.
Our heart makes and keeps covenant before the Lord against arrogance
Surely, He is our humbling master from pride’s attendance…
He vanquishes us of our vanity and extravagance
Therefore, we delight in Him and His meekness-driven guidance.
Our heart makes and keeps covenant before the Lord against discontentment
Surely, He is our sufficing grace from covetousness’ entrapment…
He provides for us along our body fitness and spirit-requirement
Therefore, we need Him and His satisfying fulfillment.

Surely, He is our protective defender from folly’s dares…
He anchors us upon our dedication-zeal and service-shares
Therefore, we cling to Him and His loving cares.
Our heart makes and keeps covenant before the Lord against entertaining doubts
Surely, He is our wise teacher Who knows the best for our whereabouts…
He directs us for our good success along stewardship’s faithful routes
Therefore, we serve Him and exalt His name with our praise-filled shouts.
