   inner inferno

In the inferno of night

a whisper of loss
a phantom lace
a ghostly touch

fingers close, cold to taste
lingers laughter
cracked bone-dry air
the clock chimes midnight

it is backward here
in this abyss of my mind
seconds falling on stone

on the graves of yesterday
hear the echoes, love, disdain
in the vacant halls
in the dark falls

a broken prayer
on lips of ash
moonlights a skeletal grin

into the labyrinthine memory
where shadows dance your form
I trace the ghost of your hand

cold on my unforgiving heart, glass
yearning sharp
it tastes of rust and rain

they say the living move on
a slow crawl toward the light
the light of man is a lie

a cruel invention
a brutal intention
my mind spins wildly

to your absence, I fly
silent screams of a world
you no longer need

in obsidian depths
where stars are swallowed
we can finally intertwine

two fragments, a shattered dream
I am adrift in the abyss
in the inferno of night

Suffering Inferno

No one knows the phoenix that burns in me.
No one knows that my heart is a burning solitude.
I carry through the dark towards the light
No one knows the dark I softly cry.
But I do. I do.
I will wake up today and thank my life.
I will walk today and thank the world
I will live until I burn to ashes
Phoenix, burns, burns, burns.

The Fire Within

In the midst of life's flames,
Your inner strength will be forged.
The burning comes, a trial by fire,
Oh brave heart, don't let the flames fade.

For in the ashes, a phoenix lies,
Waiting to rise, with wings to the skies.
From the very flames that once brought pain.
Comes transformation, and a new reign.

So let the fire refine and purify,
Let it burn away the fears that made you cry,
For in the heart of the inferno's
Lies the power to rise and shine with new light.

You will rise, like phoenix born,
From the ashes, reborn, and renewed.
To soar on wings, with grace and poise,
A symbol of hope, in the darkest of joys.

Love doesn't need to knock you down
Sometimes it's ever so subtle
Before you know it you're under it's spell
Helplessly trapped in love's bubble

No use trying to escape the entrapment
It's futile you're under it's spell
After long and heightened anticipation
Your pulse is racing like hell

The absolute extreme best kind of love
One that's totally uncontrived
The kind that happens when least expected
That takes you by complete surprise

Excitement almost more than you can bear
You think you're going insane
Can't sleep, can't do normal everyday things
Your world has been set aflame

Love often starts so innocently at first
And grows into a love tornado
Passionate love that builds and builds
Until it's a raging inferno!

Emotion
Permafrost
Tundra heart

In your lured fire
My glacier soul
Smolders into
Desire ember

My blazing yearning
Dances with your flame
Conjoined lust ash flies
In sensual sky
From love inferno

Stark
Small spark.
Flames ignite.
Fire now burns bright.
Smoke choking the air.
Breeze fans blaze, everywhere.
Soaring temperatures pall.
Crackling as branches snap and fall.
Animals whimper, they watch it grow.
Smoke billows, acrid smell, this inferno.
Blinding smoke, darkened sky, see it billow.
Crimson hot flames reach skyward, they glow.
Conditions, make it hard to breathe.
Blazing trees will wilt and seethe.
Moving flames on the run.
They’re blocking the sun.
Fear on the road
All hopes slowed.
Tears flow.
Woe.

Premium Member The Inferno of Love

Your love scorches everything that it sees
My heart's cookin' at one thousand degrees
We lie in bed all night and smoke with desire
Your kisses hotter than a four alarm fire

Chorus:
I'm burning in the inferno of love
Your hugs and kisses fit me like a glove
I'm burning in the inferno of love
My ashes soaring up to Heaven above

Before the sun's up I wake with a spark
I feel your fingers touch me in the dark
Your hot ruby lips are burning my skin
I count the seconds till they do it again

Chorus:

I fear your passion is taking its toll
A wildfire's raging out of control
Spreading like the plague crippling me
Taking hold until too blind to see

Chorus:

Now I'm a prisoner in your cage
My heart just melts while your fires rage
No doctor could ever find a cure
I'll die in Hell this I know for sure

Chorus:

My heart
Winter landscape
In frosted wilderness
Vestiges of wrecked emotions
Frozen.

That’s where
In enticed dawn
The blazing summer sun
Rises with the fond warmth of your
Embrace.

I feel
Your flaring charm
Melt glacier of longing
As I plunge in the inferno
Of love.

Engulfed
My yearning burns
In the wind of fervor
Ash flies to your sky on wings of
Desire.

and beneath the earth
a realm of endless burning...
the sun is silent

forever darkness
with loud moaning like the wind ...
dead gnarled trees withered

a fierce hell abyss
with rivers of boiling blood ...
smells of decaying

serpents and dragons
guard the walls and gates of hell ...
three headed devil

violent storms howl
swirling and pushing down down ...
path of broken bones

Interna Inferno

internal inferno
my pupils circumscribe
fonts of futility
while opportunity leaks
between my fingers
weak, bent
crippled for the moment
by cruel serendipity
it is said
“better off dead”
but the dead unheard
leave unfinished soliloquies
between dates
etched in stone
filled with momentary eternities
while i limp along
past the parade of their
final serenity
the crescendo
of wind
stirring up memory
fueling this
internal inferno
and another step
towards possibility

Eternal Inferno

My previous state of darkness I once coincided
Has suddenly converted to being worthwhile and much more lighted
Resulting in celestial flares so fierce that the earth shifts
Our inflamed union has induced a flame to gunpowder kiss
Commencing this craving for the volatile feeling of your lips
On all things I have wished upon, and all the tears that I have wept
Could not flicker or diminish the lurid wildfire we have set
This fervor furnace ever burning on it's never-ending coals
A continuous inferno scorching the combination of our souls
Drawing out the firefighters and setting off smoke alarms
Nothing else matters if I am melted here in your arms
Together we can molten in our world lit ablaze
In a conflagration of ardor, where temperatures have been raised
Whenever I am beside you, our surroundings meltdown and fray
This endless enamored pyromania is fueled by our smolder
As the lurid wind swirls about the endless amber embers
My survival is no longer possible without the kiss from your lips
So together we must burn eternally like a pair of arsonists

This Inferno of Silence

We cast Long shadows into the past.
They cover buried things of something vast.
They cover the bones of things better left unknown.

Optic vision fires flair and cracks at the revelations.

Insane holy and profane, settling deep in the back
of memories, remain only fine dust settles
on Eons empire in vacant halls.

Alone, cold sitting in empty shadows,
a sound drone's impressions drown
delayed hands absently keep a rhythmic beat.

Only chimes echo along hollow halls
as the hands keep marking the hour.
Deep is this inferno of silence shadows
casting visions into the past.

We cast Long shadows into the past.
That cover buried things of something vast.
They cover the bones of things better left unknown.

Yeah...

Inferno

A smoky inferno dimmed the sun
No language on Earth
Can capture the feeling
Of human life loss
Kind words anchor your heart
Your thoughts are with the Heavenly stars
The soul is trapped in silence.

Yes, I smell sulfur
Brimstone seepage smothers me
Earth’s crust pizza thin
Mud pools like cauldrons bubble
Dante’s infernal region.

Underworld torment
Geysers vent their hot rage
I am thunderstruck
Extreme caution is needed
The inferno is waiting.

A trip many years ago to Rotorua reminded me of Dante's Inferno. The smell of sulfur (Brimstone) and bubbling mud pools all made me think of the Divine Comedy. I wrote this poem while the experience was fresh in my mind but it has been tweaked again to fit syllable count. These days I try to be accurate regarding haiku and tanka.
